It would be fine, if we could compare two databases. So it would be possible to find DVDs in the database of a friend, that we don`t have in ours. So we can swap or loan disks to watch them before buying the wrong one. The result should be a list of DVDs found in database 1, but not in database 2.
Kind Regards
Heinz

One possible solution would be for your friend to send you the backup file of his/her collection. You could then create a second database on your system with his collection. Export both databases to .xml or use the .csv plugin and create and Excel spreadsheet with the titles and compare the two lists.

Thx for the straight tip. I do so as a workaround, but it would be even better, if I could use a function (or plugin) within DVDP.

I've just cooked something up.

Database/DVD Comparer - download here (bottom of the pafe).

- It needs Microsoft.net 2.0.

Run the DVDComparer.exe, it will try to install itsself in the Plugins folder of DVD Profiler.
After installing, start up DVD Profiler.
In the Collection List window, turn the Show Flag Indicators option on.
There's a new main menu item called "Plugins" with the option "Database Comparer".
Click it.
Choose an DVD Profiler XML export file (from your friend, of course the export should be single file).
Wait a little until the "Done Comparing" messagebox shows.

All DVDs that are in your database, but not in the XML, are now flagged.

You can test this yourself by flagging some DVDs and then choose to export the flagged DVDs to a single XML file... then use this XML file as input for the Database Comparer...
I make love in theory and touch myself in practice.

Hi Paul,

thx for that mighty fine plugin. I`ve tried it, and it runs well. That is to say it does what it is for.
But users are a very special kind of human being. They want more and more, whatever they have.
I got a list with all DVDs in the database, which are not in the XML-file. That`s what I asked for, but there are many titles in both collections with different EAN. E. a. one is a 1-Disk version, the other a 2-Disk. I think it is a problem for the coding, to find out what is the same film, but it would help to filter out titles with exact the same text (or in addition with the same runtime). So I had only to unmark DVDs with different Title, but same content. By the way: the Exe-file showed an error message that it was already started, but it was DVDP what was running at that time. After closing DVDP the installation completed successfully.
Whatever, your plugin is a helpfull tool to me. Another time thanks for it.
Kind Regards
Heinz

Scanning on title can be done, the change is not hard at all. There's still a (small) chance of mixups, with spelling differences (IE Clerks 2 vs Clerks II) or foreign movie titles...

I'll fix it tonight, so you can gice that a go...

Tried to find out  if there is anything new, but the Exe is the same (0.1 316KB) as the first one.
Is the problem after all more complicated than expected?
Kind Regards

Sorry WastlNRW, haven't had the time I thought I'd have. I hope to look into it this weekend.

There is a plugin "http://mysite.verizon.net/MEJHarrison/Plugins/Default.htm" from Mark Harrison that works fine. (See Forum Plugins)

No sorry for that, I have to thank if you will spend your time to help. I will have a look at this for a hint of a new version.
