I've looked for a while now and cannot seem to find an answer to this problem:

My DVD collection is sorted on my shelves in a particular manner.  I was informed that the best way to include this information in the program would be to set up Tags for their organization, as I could personalize it accordingly.

Well, I've finished setting up tags for all my DVDs and now I would like to print a report (or even view on-screen) my collection according to the order that my DVDs are organized (to make sure that I haven't missed adding any of my discs).  To do this, I need to sort by tags.  Is this possible?  If so, how?

I am worried that I will not be able to view my collection in this manner, quite defeating the purpose of the program to organize my DVDs accordingly.  Thanks for any help in advance.

hello -

unfortunately there is no way (that i know of - you may want to ask if this is possible over in the reports forum... some of those guys are html/java experts and know alot more about making a custom report) to do exactly what you want - however what you can do is this:

say your tags are:
shelf 1
shelf 2
shelf 3

you can filter by tags for only titles that are "shelf 1"

then collection -> flags -> flag all filtered

then run your desired report with "flagged entries only" selected.

the result will be a report with all the titles from "shelf 1"

repeat for other shelves.

its a few more steps, but it will get you the desired results.

It does help solve it, thanks.  But I am still hoping for a less time-consuming way of doing it.  It seems to me that sorting on tags should be a fairly simple feature to include, and I was kind of surprised to find out that DVDProfiler doesn't yet have this functionality built-in.  I like a lot of the program's features, but can only hope to see this one soon.

You could use the collection number to sort your collection in this manner. Use 1xxx for shelf 1, 2xxx for shelf 2, etc.

Tags are just filterable labels, which is the way tags work in just about any setting I've seen them used.

This request matches mine, as i try to sort by Movie, TV, and animation dvd's separately (since they are shelved that way).  The closest i have come is with the new csv exporter which includes location in the export and print the report via excel.  That way i can sort by any column (in this case location column, then titlesort column).

What i am really hoping for is a new field in DVD profiler that is a location field for the container, which is what i think most people use anyway.

You can sort by location now...  You can also use the location field to identify the container, by adding a letter to the start of the location.  If I'm understanding your post that is.
