The collection number system needs some improvements, specially for people with multiple discs

Eg I'm adding a box set with 3 discs and it gets Collection number 1, it would be nice if you could reserve 2 and 3, so they are not suggested next time I add a dvd, because I want to start from number 4. And there should be a list with the gaps and reserved numbers, so you could easy see the gaps and add/remove reserved numbers.

Also it should be optional that when adding a dvd, it takes the last free number and uses that as a suggestion, if you don't have reserved any of the numbers in the gaps.
Eg. i got dvd's from 1-20, a gap from 21-22, dvd's from 23 to 30, a gap from 31 to 33 and then dvd's from 34 to 40. It should suggest 41 as the next number when adding a new DVD and not 21, but again it should be optional via settings.

And on a side note, it would be great if you in the program settings could permanently remove blu-ray and hd-dvd from the Add new dvd box.

But really great program, a happy new "unlimited" user

Since you're a new user, you probably don't realize how it works.  If you add something with 3 discs, like The Godfather Collection for example, that gets #1.  But you can also add the contents of the boxset.  If they have a UPC code on the back, you can enter that.  If not, you can put the discs in your DVD-ROM and add the contents by Disc ID.  If you don't have a DVD-ROM, you can always search by Title and add them that way.

Then go back into the profile for the set, edit it, click on Box Set Contents, and add the three other profiles you just entered.  You now have a box set setup in the program.  It should appear with a "+" next to it in the list.  You can click on that to reveal the contents of the set.

That way you can not only have the entire contents of the set profiled, but it also solves your numbering problem.

I can second Mark's reply. Just add child profiles and give those numbers as well. Then you don't need gaps.
The way I do it, is to give the parent profiles (i.e. the boxset profiles) no number. As a result, only the actual movies get numbers and therefore the count more or less reflects the number of actual movies or TV seasons.

Cool, didn't know you can leave the collection number empty. This is really handy to leave the parent profile of a boxset empty. Now my collection has shrunken a bit (after a month of explosive growth due to the adding of child profiles  )

Thx,
Richard

It's really good tip (and thanks a lot for it), but it doesn't work properly against the online collection.

Eg. I got Amercian Dad Season 1 at #3 and it's 3 Discs.

So i add American Dad Season 1 - Disc 1 to 3, to my collection and I edit American Dad Season 1 (#3) and under boxset, i add the three discs. I give the 3 discs number #3-5 and yep that means those 3 numbers are now "reserved" and nicely is a sub-dvd for American Dad Season 1 in Dvd Profiler, awesome

BUT in the online collection, the discs shows up as individual items and not as "sub-dvd's" for American Dad Season 1, which makes it look messy

Any idea or is this really what needs to be fixed?

People have already asked for upgrades to the online database to allow it to show boxsets properly, so hopefully we may get it soon.

He's referring to how the online profiler handles box sets, or better, how it doesn't handle them .

Hey, I would count a box set with 35 CD's as a zero too.

Oh sweet ... didn't realize that either.  I'm going the other way with mine, so my collection shows the number of titles I bought.  (The Adventures of Indiana Jones gets a number, and the movie and bonus disks are blank.)

Now if I could just figure out how to do an expand all from the get-go ...
