I think there needs to be the option of directory location to store all the settings directories (Flags, Layouts, Reports, etc.) to alternate location beside My Documents.  I think you need to allow the user of the PC to decide where they would like to store their Settings and/or plugins instead of forcing it to be stored into My Documents.

Thanks!

It's pretty standard programming practice for almost all operating systems these days to place programs in a programs directory and data in the current user's data directory. In *nix, that's /usr/bin and /home/username respectively. In windows, that's C:\Program Files and "My Documents" respectively.

Just about every program I've installed in the last 2-3 years for Windows automatically puts it's info in the user's documents tree. Some will use Application Data or Local Settings under the tree for data and settings, but I don't mind it in My Documents because of all the add-on files for plugins, and HTML Layouts that need to be preserved in backup situations.

I think the point here is that I as a user would like to have the choice in changing the default location of the user data.
Personally I do store the DVDProfiler database in "My Documents", but in a sub-directory. I would like to be able to enter that as my data directory when installing the programme.

Having the option to store the data in another location would be nice but now that it is there an option to move the data COMPLETELY would be nice.  I too like to store data on a drive other than my primary drive.  the less you store on your primary boot drive the better your system performance.

Please, no comments on the technical arguments about system performance and storing data on your primary boot drive.

I agree with that one, keeping peronal data excluding configuration files under user profile creates some unwanted issues.

I assume that you are talking about separate drive, not partition. Partitioning one physical drive to several partitiong doesn't give you any gain for performance wise or anything else, unless you are doing some HC video/music editing.

You practically ask for it. Since NTFS5 you don't gain practically any better performance if you have your files in other physical drive or in separate partition. Folder under C:\ with correctly configured ACL's works just fine. When we had FAT/FAT32 10 years ago it was comlitely different story though...

Ok....  more and more people on here would like the option to have the DVD Profiler directory at a location of their choice.  You would think they would consider this option...

In my situation...  I am a HUGE neat freak, and I have My Documents sorted into folders.  I have a Catalog directory where I store all my catalog databases.  I would like to be able to store DVD Profiler to this directory for a neat directory structure.

It is not too much to ask for...

Not to be sarcastic or anything else. Indeed it does sound reasonable, but it has been periodically suggested for 7 years and....<shrugs>

I should add don't give up hope, it took us 5 years to get Crew Data.

By Inference, My Documents is the wrong place anyway: the DVD Profiler database is a resource I want to share over my LAN - my media stores are not in the lounge. My Documents suggests to me that its the place where Microsoft wants me to put stuff that is a bit closer to me than family assets like the movie database.

nolesrule showed me how to move My Documents out of the partition that contains the operating system, which is a damn useful trick, but the notion of using it for the movies database and cover images...

Its a pity that the developers don't step in and explain their position in the forum. I remember fondly the TAG McLaren Audio forum. Even the CEO would get involved, explaining things and, from the developments that appeared in the product, clearly taking the message on board. The idea of providing room equalisation in the main HC processor is an example - and it was years ahead of the pack.

The developers = The CEO = Ken Cole: stepping in.
You might want to read this thread.

The screeners = Gerri Cole: stepping in.

Thanks Lmoelleb,

A second useful lesson in the same forum - I like this place.

I would have expected the Coles to be more visible in the Feature Requests section than I've noticed so far. Personally, I find "Its like that because..." suits me better than "Like it or lump it".

(I noticed Black Book at the top of your recent DVD buys. Verhoeven definitely is very talented man - I loved it - and who wouldn't fall for Carice van Houten. I digress  - oops!).

I would like this option as well. I would like to install this program on a ext hard drive. The Coles are moving since we found their house on Google Earth so they are busy selling their house and moving.
