Clarification sought on using data from existing Invelos contributions |

| | Posted: | | | | Could I ask for clarification on the correctness of taking cast, crew, and other info from existing and therefore "approved" contributions.
I recently had a contribution declined. I have absolutely no problem with that as such, since I spent a frustrating half-an-hour fruitlessly searching for a means to yank the contribution immediately after I had submitted it.
In my notes, I said:
"This is a Hong Kong release for which I have no information other than the physical product in my hands.
Wherever possible details for this film have been taken from the DVD cover, with cast and crew data taken from other contributions for "Irréversible" already in the Invelos database."
The submission was declined for the reason:
"Please use birth years only to distinguish between otherwise identical cast and crew. New birth year submissions must be documented."
B U T !!! As stated, I didn't contribute the birth year, nor any other details of cast or crew. Those details where already in the Invelos database and I modified the cover scans, EAN and disc IDs of an existing database entry to reflect those that I physically had in my hands. To be honest, I didn't even realise there was a birth year field.
From those rejection notes, I'm unclear if it is incorrect to use data from already approved contributions, or whether I'm supposed to distrust all such approved data and create the information from scratch using any source other than Invelos and IMdb. |

| | Posted: | | | | It's best to only use cast and crew from profiles where the contribution notes for that profile confirm that they are taken from the film's credits. It's also a good idea to spin through the film yourself and double check them - adding that to your notes too.
As for birth years, they are causing a few problems at the moment, so the screeners are being very strict. If you can't confirm that they are needed to distinguish between two actors, or if you can't quote which profile the birth year came from, then it's safest to remove them before submitting.

As indicated, I didn't even realise there was a Birth Year field. In the program layout that I use, it can only be seen if I select each individual cast/crew member in turn, and since I can see the cast/crew members in a list form, I would rarely do that.
In this instance, the birth year was in the original contribution that I downloaded from Invelos, then changed EAN, disc IDs and cover scans to match my copy.
In other instances to date, I have taken details from the film credits themselves, and think I will continue to do so to avoid importing erroneous information. |

Just go to My Profiler page and click on the Contributions button on the left. On the Contributions page click on the title of the contribution and it expands to show your contribution notes in a second box, below the title info, and also a 'Withdraw' selection on the right. Just go to My Profiler page and click on the Contributions button on the left.
On the Contributions page click on the title of the contribution and it expands to show your contribution notes in a second box, below the title info, and also a 'Withdraw' selection on the right. Hit Withdraw to yank the contribution. Thanks Voltaire53! I was sure I had clicked on everything possible - just not the title of the contribution. I'll give it a try when I next contribute something. |
