| Posted: | | | | Anyone else getting stupid declines i just had one for Enter the Dragon cover scans only 1 No Quote: a little too dark. the text at the bottom has become unreadable (To me looked no different and the scans were more than substantially better than the existing) 7 yes votes One minor negative comment seven who are perfectly happy with it and yet again the negative voter gets there way what about the seven people who voted yes does there voice count for nothing. If it was an isolated incident i think nothing of it but i had one before with 23 Yes votes and 1 No and that got declined as well it would seem that no matter how many yes votes you get a No will always carry more weight. Is it just me or is it happening to others as well. |

| Posted: | | | | No votes don't necessarly carry more weight. Cover scans are almost in the same league of Generes everyone has a personal opion.
It could have been it was declined because the screener thought the cover scan was not significantly different. You could try and resubmit the cover scans with details on the improvements of the scans over the originals. | | | Are you local? For existing images, one of the best things you can do is point out the items that you are trying to correct. And to be honest, this is a case where giving more informaiton on at least one specific item can help you out. Such as "check out the stuble on his chin" or "notice the difference in the color of the background". Comments such as that make it is easier to see a discernable difference in the cover scan. -Gerri | | | Invelos Software, Inc. Representative |

| Posted: | | | | You know I'm sticking my neck out on this but: this past week I submitted two DVD's of the same UPC ( One Canada and One USA region - High Plains Drifter ) Both DVD's to me looked terrible., I submitted both with exactly the same Scanned covers. The USA got voted down so fast ( especially from Skip,-Existing images are also ORIGINAL release note the Copyright date at the bottom, and they are FAR SUPERIOR ), So I pulled the plug.,, But the Canadian one just sat there with no votes and today it got approved !! LOL I guess Gerri Liked it . | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. Now the World is weird and People take Prozac to make it Normal.

| Posted: | | | | Lets get one thing strait here I'm not having a go at Gerri shes just doing her job. Its just this contribution system can get so frustrating some times it makes me want to pull my hair out and i haven't got that much left. I think all voter should leave a comment not just the no voters after all its easier to criticise than to praise. |

| Posted: | | | | Everyone's eyes are different; everyone's training, monitors, skill, and attitudes are different. When Invelos (the Coles) evaluates their final decision, they weight the votes, the comments, and (surprise!) it is not a democracy. Everyone here can make cover scans which are significantly superior than some of the current images in the database. But there comes a point when the subjective interpretation of the concept of "significantly" becomes a matter of personal taste. I like a scan which looks like a photograph, ready for a printing press. Skip (I believe) prefers scans which are more saturated in color than I like, and he seems to like scans which have significant amounts of sharpening. His monitor is different than mine. I learned a certain trade; he learned another -- and our eyes and experience differ greatly.
So what to you looks like a significantly improved scan, might by other criteria, might be not so significant, or even worse into certain viewer's/screener's/voter's eyes.
Very subjective, and despite certain pieces of software, this relies on the skills of the person doing the scan, their tastes and viewpoints, and also those of everyone else involed in the process. Especially the Coles. This leads to some lively (and occasionally unpleasant) debates. Not all which glitters is gold, nor is black always black. | | | If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

| Posted: | | | | To expand on what Cliff said a bit. One surprise I have run into in the work I have done the last two years, is that images which looked fine to me on my old CRT, look like crap on my flat panel. I will say that I have a great deal of confidence in my images on my flat panel because I bought a very high end piece of gear for the express purpose of this work and I keep it calibrated. That said I agree with Cliff. No two people are going to perceive things in exactly the same way and unless Cliff knows something I don't , there is no method to calibrate eyeballs. Skip The only way I know (and I don't know much) how is by training, experience, talent, luck, and finding out (very slowly) that other professionals trust your eyes better than theirs. -- Kind of like being a futbol (football, soccer) referee -- what you see & what others see may not always coincide. But even if you are very good at it, even then, there will be a client (or a press operator) who thinks you're nuts. | | | If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

| Posted: | | | | Most of the cover scans I've seen in the updates to my db look no better than what was already there. I haven't taken the time to determine where either of them came from nor do i care. There are just to many variables. | | | We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own. | Posted: | | | | Not sure if this helps - but I calibrate my monitor screen and when sometimes I look at new covers, everybody else is raving about them but I think the colour is wrong.
so it really is a matter of the monitor and how its calibrated.. | | | Paul | | | Last edited: by pauls42 |
