Whilst technically a box set.  These are sigle theme, subject sets akin to any two or three disk edtion of a film.  Surely it is apposite not to include these in the box set rule and allow cast and crew credits' as much as they are, to be included.

If we were to go with technicalities then any edtion of a film over a single disk could then be deemed as a box set.

This seems somewhat misguided in this case; I notice that 'The Lord of the Rings' boxed set all contain cast and crew details.  Should these now be removed?

I wouldn't consider this even technically a box set.  It is a multi-disc documentary/compendium.

Box set definition:

The term "Box Set" is used to define any release that includes more than one film. The main examples are:.

Sets where each film is packaged individually, and held together in a package of some kind.
Sets where each film is on a separate disc, but not individually packaged. This includes gatefold Digipaks and 2-Disc sets in normal DVD cases.
Sets containing 2 films, one on each side of Dual-Sided DVD.

This is a single presentation of a compendium of raw, nearly unedited documentary footage of a single subject event, and nothing I would call seperate films.

That being said, I don't recall anything in the way of cast or crew credits (other than DVD credits) either.

Only reason I raised this as Skipnet50 (and another) considers this to be a boxset.  When attempting to add astronauts names against cast this was refused; even the astronauts appear as themselves and are credited as thus.  I would also argue this is not a boxset.

As such Mark Gray, who I guess I Skipnet50, added as the producer of the set; should now be removed as per Skipnet50's interpretation of the rules.

Surely the rules should be clarified as to what category this series falls into.

If it has been set up as a box set - are there no child profiles available that contain the information you want?

No child profiles exist, and this is not a box set per the meaning of the rules.  It is a multi-disc set, but it is a single presentation.

But as I pointed out, there are no cast/crew credits that I am aware of to extract cast/crew info from.  So all additions would fall into the "uncredited" bin, and need to be documented.  Since it is raw documentary style footage, shot by still cameras or astronauts themselves, I don't think you can even list much in the way of crew, if anything (save for perhaps those who assembled the footage for release).  There was no director, cinematographer, sound credits (much is silent), etc.  As for cast, I suppose it should be done the same way any documentary credits would be done (people appearing as themselves with no formal credits).  I think if those appearing are identified on screen that is good enough to point out.  If no identification appears, you would need to name your source for uncredited info.

These arent easy releases to fit into the profile rules.  Good on you for trying.

Regardless, I still don't see any way this fits the definition of a box set.

It sounds to me like a box containing multiple discs that each contain a number of "films".  Sounds like a boxset to me.  Actually it sounds closer to a TV set, but it all boils down to the same thing essentially.

I don't break my TV sets out by discs like many here do (each TV set is a single profile in my collection).  But I certainly wouldn't try to attempt to restrict others from doing so.  So I'm not clear what the problem is here.  If you don't like the way it's setup, fix it in your local database and let it go.  There's two sides to this and there's no way you can please both sides.

For the record, I don't have these sets.  So forgive me if I'm missing the point here.  But I have similar sets (Mysteries of the Deep and Mysteries of the Cosmos).  They're those cheap $10-$15 sets in the metal tin with 5 discs that each contain some documentary style shows on each disc.  I've broken mine out into separate discs and prefer them that way.  And I'd give the same answer on those.  If you don't want want to track them as "boxsets", then don't download the child profiles.  If there's data that you want or don't want in the profiles, fix it up and submit it if it follows the rules.  If it doesn't follow the rules, then keep it local.  You won't be the first and certainly not the last to have something different in your database that can't be contributed.  And with 3.0, I think your data will even show up, as you've entered it, in your personal online listing.  It just won't be in the master database in your preferred format.  So what's the big deal?

Except these are not multiple films, these are multiple scenes...different thing entirely.  It is an unnarrated, minimally edited documentary of a single mission to the moon, using all gathered footage and presented in (primarily) chronological order.  There are no episodes or seprerate features.  The footage is extensive, and therefore spans more than one disc.  More than one disc does not automatically equal box set.

The "big deal" is why profile something using box set rules when it clearly is not?  It is pointless, removes data that should be present, and does not follow the guidlines.  When someone contributes incorrect data I don't vote yes or neutral and resign myself to correcting it locally, I reserve that for making non-standard changes for my own use, as it should be.  Plus, it is easier to strip data from something locally than have to add it all back in, and frustrating to boot when it should have been there in the first place.  Even multi-disc TV series have cast/crew/etc whether there are child profiles or not, and a TV series is much closer to fitting a box set definition than the "Nasa Archives" release.

Well if this is just one long "film" spread out over multiple discs with no divisions others than spreading it across discs, then this is certainly something different than most box sets.  It would be more like a long film that is spread over both sides of a disc or over two discs.  In that case, I guess they shouldn't be treated like a box set.

Since I don't have these, it's probably time for me to step out of this discussion.  Thanks for setting me straight.

Since you don't have them, let me say you should!  They are quite fascinating, though a bit pricey.  But there is no better way to (re)experience the amazing achievement of going to the moon.

I actually have a set already (Mysteries of the Cosmos).  Disc 5 is all footage from space.  I've not seen it yet, but I'm very much looking forward to it.

I disagree with just about every way that Skip handles these, from production year to cast to whether it's a box set.  So I just do my own profile, lock it, and skip any Skip updates to them.

They are great sets though....I have a project of getting the astronauts to autograph their volumes (alas, can't do that for Apollo 1) and have accumulated a gorgeous set of memories in the process.  Met Wally Schirra last summer, and that alone was priceless.

What's the title and UPC?
I was at NASA, Merritt Island Fla. during much od the Apollo project, I have a number of the early releases of these NASA Achieve series on DVD, Apolo 8. 11, 14, 15, 16, 17, and the one on Saturn. The ones I had on Laser Discs are lost to laser rot.

I have never completed or expanded the profiles.

In 1964 I was in Huntsville, Ala, at an extension of the University of Alabama working on the UNIVAC 1107. On evening we were adding an extra memory bank to it making it the largest computer in the area, when a little fellow who looked like a scientist out of B SCI-FI movie wondered in. He was one of Von Braun's boys, He ask about the computer, so I show him around. I offered him a cup of coffee. We got to talking and he showed us just how the moon shot and landing was going to go. He said no one believes me but hat's how it's going to be and so it was.

I was in charge of getting the computer that captured the Apollo prep and lift off data through it's acceptance tests. And stayed on from May 1965 to Sept. 1967, and I took many trips back when they wanted backup. Our office was in the Communications and Instrumentation Building. They sent me a commemorative card after the lunar landing. SO I've always been interested in this series.
We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own.
