| Posted: | | | | Just thinking.... - and: I know the rules: "Enter birth years only when necessary to differentiate between two actors with the same name." But - Why don't we add the birth year to every crew/cast member? The birth year is in standard layout visible - but at this time only filled for a few members. Pro: It's an interesting fact, how old an actor is in the movie. Pro: The field is in the database - so why don't we use it? Request: Why not change it to birth date, use filters for it, etc. Contra: Every profile would have updates... hard work for the community Contra: no other - for me This is just a discussion about this topic - please, don't add birth years as long as the current contribution rules are valid ... |

Use wikipedia as a free source... 2. OK, what is 'confirmed'? my guess: imdb is not 'good' for the community ... or just use google - for my opinion - if you find the birth date on two ore three different sites it's a fact! |

| Posted: | | | | It would also reduce the number of contributions. I don't mind contributing when all the information is need is there on the disc but if I had to start searching a cast of 25 actors one by one to find their birth dates I would stop contributing because I simply wouldn't have the time for this.
I'm most probably not the only one who would feel that way. | | | My 4x4 Club: Club FJ Cruiser Quebec DVDP Français: Forum DVD Profiler Français DVDCOL:DVD Collectors Online Video: LG RU-42PX10 Audio: Sony DreamSystem DAVFX100W | | | Last edited: by Touti |

For #1 above - wikipedia is not an official source. Since it is user driven, like IMDB, it's considered (I think) third party data. Unreliable. For #2 above - I dispute that. Many celebrities don't have their true birthdates posted anywhere, even with the government and their agents. Just because two or three sites say something, doesn't make it correct. |

Just because two or three sites say something, doesn't make it correct. Agree. But - what legitimate source could be utilized IF birth date were implemented for everyone? I have no idea what source, professional organization, etc. would be have the desired requirements; legal, free, reliable, in-depth, etc. In an ideal world a list of resources would be developed, voted on, and implemented. Everyone would be given a birth year based on the source implemented. If, in the rare instance a birth year were not available, N/A would be entered. |

| Posted: | | | | I can't see what harm it would do if people were allowed to contribute documented DOB to whoever they like with a couple of provisos. No submissions just to add DOB unless it is to differentiate and definitely no requirement to add them when creating a cast or crew member. |

| Posted: | | | | I always thought that it was an actors guild thing not to have two (or more) actors with the same on screen name.
Can anyone enlighten me on what the actual rules are.

Can anyone enlighten me on what the actual rules are. I believe you are correct (it's been mentioned in the forum before). However, nt all actors are members of the guild. | | | Achim [諾亞信; Ya-Shin//Nuo], a German in Taiwan. Registered: May 29, 2000 (at InterVocative) |
