I would like to see some automation in the process of accepting weekly updates.

One of the standard type of function in a database is the exception list, and it is used both for excluding and for including data for further processing.  In our case, it would work as follows:

Whenever we vote on a submission for update, an entry in a file stored locally is made for each title we check YES on.  Nothing fancy, just the title and UPC or Disc ID.

Then, the next time we download the update list which contains ALL the updates we've voted on, pro or con, the update function compares our local exception list to the total list, and automatically applies those updates we've voted YES on.  Updating our local database would take a couple of minutes instead of sometimes hours.

After the update is completed, the local exception list is zeroed out and reset, and starts building again with the next vote.  This would be particularly handy for those of us who have large collections and don't always have the time to wade through scores or even hundreds of updates.  Keeping notes on how you vote is also a royal pain because you may not remember to make a note, or the list gets misplaced, etc.  Let the computer do the work, right?

Is this the same as suggested here or am I missing something?

It would have to be optional..

the problems with this are

1) that I may vote yes on one submission and then a 2nd appears for the same dvd which I vote no on.

And what I see is a combination of both profile submissions..

2) I may vote yes since its within the rules but not want that applied to me local version..

I would make it the default behavior, with a checkbox to opt out.  If you don't want it applied locally, that's what locks are for.

No, it isn't the same thing at all.  Hal is wanting to pick pieces parts right from the voting screen.  What I'm talking about is just automating the tracking of those you vote YES for, so that you don't have to look at each one again to decide whether or not to apply it because you can't remember if you voted yes or no on what may be hundreds of updates.

You would still apply locks and such for fields you don't want changed

This would be true of most profiles for me.

An opt out would definitely be needed.
