| Posted: | | | | I looked at the rules but I don't know what should go where for the writing credits:
Story and Screenplay
So, for instance - The Fountain:
Story by Darren Aronofsky & Ari Handel Screenplay by Darren Aronofsky
Where do these names go under? |

So in this case Darren Aronofsky would get both Original Material By and Screenplay by. Ari Handel would only get Original Material by. You would enter them in the order in which they are credited on screen credits. | | | Are you local? | Posted: | | | | I don't know if I really agree with that. "Original Material By" would only be used if The Fountain was oringally a novel or something and it was adapted to a screenplay. And along with that, "Screenwriter" is only used for said adapted novels/plays/poems, etc. As far as I know The Fountain is an original story therefore Darren Aronofsky should be credited as the "Writer". Though admittedly, going by the rules, that really doesn't leave any proper credit for Ari Handel. I'd probably include him in the "Writer" credit myself since he had input into the story. Perhaps Ken needs to add a "Story By" credit? | | | "Rules are for the obedience of fools and the guidance of wise men" - Douglas Bader "A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools." - Douglas Adams |

Perhaps Ken needs to add a "Story By" credit? Sorry, IMO all kinds of wrong and doesn't follow the rules... Aronofsky adapted the script from a story (which was even published in some form as I recall =) Story By = OMB at the moment, and screenplay by... well. The cast for that film is more scary... those end credits. We do need 'story by,' 'screen story by,' etc. though, that part I agree with... | | | Erik

Perhaps Ken needs to add a "Story By" credit? Agree with this completely. In the meantime, it has been a long-standing convention that "Story By" = "Original Material By" in DVDP. | | | Hal |

I was under the impression this was a brand new script and original story. In which case my example is correct going by the rules. Quoting hal9g: Quote: Agree with this completely.
In the meantime, it has been a long-standing convention that "Story By" = "Original Material By" in DVDP. That's what I was wondering about as far as how it's been handled in the past. I figured this couldn't be the first time it had come up, but didn't see any real decision one way or the other in the forums here. Was going to search Intervocative when I got home from work to see if there was more of a resolution there, but I guess this saves me time. | | | "Rules are for the obedience of fools and the guidance of wise men" - Douglas Bader "A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools." - Douglas Adams | | | Last edited: by Vega |

However, new script doesn't necessarily equal "written by" in this program... Any place, really. | | | Erik
