An idea perhaps to make voting on these and their contributions etc a little easier and less burdensome.
From a totally naive non-programming perspective, so not sure if it is technically feasible.(perhaps Ken could advise)

The ruling appears to be that 'country of origin' is defined by the principal production company. From a list of known Production Companies, the CoO field is auto-populated on a new profile submission if it hasn't been manually filled by the submitter. In addition, amendments to existing titles also follow the same criteria, ie if the field is blank it 'recognises' the production company and adds it automatically, thus self-populating the database to a large degree of the total.

Examples;
Walt Disney - auto-populates the CoO to USA
Aardman - UK
Wingnut Films - NZ
Working Dog - Australia
Revolver Film Company - Canada
etc etc

Obviously there are pitfalls, what happens when 2 production companies are listed etc, but does anyone see any value in this idea?

no, absolutely against it. It's a simple rule one should follow: Never auto fill fields with possibly false data. If you can achieve close to 100% correctness, it might be okay, but that's never going to happen.

Also: One would have to add the correct(?) country to every studio in the database.... yeah, i guess not

Have to agree with Jan, the possibility of wrong data outweighs any benefit. The flood of CoO contributions has mostly passed (at least for me) and once most of the profiles in the online have been updated, this function shouldn't be needed anyway.
