Multiple DiscID's in database |

| Posted: | | | | This is more a question about how the database handles updates for non-UPC movies.
I have the Nightmare on Elm Street boxset and for whatever reason none of my DiscID's match the ones for the child profiles all ready in the database. Now I know I could just download the child profiles as is, add them to my boxset and be done with it. But I'm a bit anal and want my stuff to match. I also know that I could just do this all up locally in my DB and not worry about it, but I figure I can't be the only one who will run into this. Plus, Ken did put in the rules "All Disc IDs will be stored in the main database for a future development of DVD Profiler" so I figured adding them may help something later down the line.
Anyway, so my question is. If I download the child profile that all ready exists and simply change the DiscID, and re-upload it... will that overwrite the database entry that is all ready there? Or will it create a new record with the new DiscID and leave the other one there? I obviously don't want to alter the one that's there all ready. Or would I need to create them new from scratch by DiscID and submit them? | | | "Rules are for the obedience of fools and the guidance of wise men" - Douglas Bader "A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools." - Douglas Adams |

| Posted: | | | | No, changing the UPC or Disc ID breaks the connection to the original profile. As long as the new UPC or ID doesn't match another profile it will create a new one. Just remember to change the locality too if needed. |

| Posted: | | | | I was hoping that was the case, but when I tried it to see what would happen it took me to the "contribution notes" for that profile (the original one) and shows the comparison on the left and right side of what I'm about to change (the DiscID) as if it's going to change it in the original profile. Is there a different way I need to contribute as a "new" profile?
-edit- And to clarify, there's no UPCs here. These are child profiles entered using the DiscIDs. | | | "Rules are for the obedience of fools and the guidance of wise men" - Douglas Bader "A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools." - Douglas Adams | | | Last edited: by Vega |

| Posted: | | | | Ah - you're not changing it in the right place. If you select the profile in your collection, but do not go to edit. Go instead to the DVD menu at the top of the screen. At the bottom of this menu, there is the option to Change EAN (or UPC) - you use this to change the disc ID of the profile to a new one. Edit: change Locality is just above it if you need it.
Edit: I was just mentioning UPCs because you change them the same way, sorry I didn't mean to overload you with info! | | | Last edited: by northbloke |

| Posted: | | | | Crickey! I knew about changing the UPC from the DVD menu, but it didn't occur to me to change the DiscID from the same place. And there's even a convenient "Use DiscID from inserted disc" option. Sorry for the momentary brain lapse there.
Thanks! | | | "Rules are for the obedience of fools and the guidance of wise men" - Douglas Bader "A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools." - Douglas Adams |
