In the last week or two you made a change that fixed the slow start and search speed, and it worked great. (but)
The system is much faster , however as before, I've noticed that when I go to options, tools, display and then click on Auto Expand box sets then the system slow way down again (45 seconds to clear a search and 45 to 50 seconds for the program to start.) With Auto Expand box sets turned 'OFF' every thing runs smooth and search and starting to program only takes about 5 to 10 seconds.
(From Ken) I'm not seeing the slowdown here. Can you spot this into the support forum and see if others are seeing it? Maybe we can narrow down a cause.
(My reply) The slow down only accures when you go to the menu - Tools, Options, Display and configure AUTO EXPAND BOX SETS. If it is not checked the system runs alot faster. I could be that I have over 1800 child profiles.
I will post it in the Tech Forum | | | Last edited: by LDH |

| Posted: | | | | I don't see that slowdown on my machine, but I don't have too many child profiles (hate them most of the time, I think they clutter up my list for no good reason).
The only slowdown I notice (since this thread is about slowdowns) is when I leave it minimized too long. That was fixed in the early 3.0 release (3.0 and 3.0.1 I think), but since the introduction of the search speed fix, now it gets bogged down to complete sluggishness when left minimized for too long, like when watching a movie or overnight.
I guess the way Ken makes seearching faster, does not work too well with how Windows manages system memory. | | | Last edited: by RossRoy |

| Posted: | | | | I have approx. 1000 profiles and not an overly amount of Box Set setups (I have child profiles for TV series downloaded to the Ordered tab, but they are waiting there until I decide what to do with them...) and the system is in a good speed.
What is slow for me is the switching of the tabs, especially to the ALL tab... | | | Achim [諾亞信; Ya-Shin//Nuo], a German in Taiwan. Registered: May 29, 2000 (at InterVocative) |

I too am seeing this; when 3.0 was introduced I remember praise for the fact 2.4 used to slow down the longer it was left running and 3.0 didn't. With 3.0.3 it seems it has returned to this (I tend to close and re-open after a long break now) and I would assume the same as you about Windows memory. The other big slowdown for me is, when adding a DVD, switching from Region X titles only to All Regions. | | | It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong | | | Last edited: by Voltaire53 |

| Posted: | | | | spotz, are you using the latest version (3.0.3)?
Have you modified the layout by yourself, adding your own HTML windows. A few users found that some of those can slow down the loading process as well... | | | Achim [諾亞信; Ya-Shin//Nuo], a German in Taiwan. Registered: May 29, 2000 (at InterVocative) |

| Posted: | | | | I am three hours and nine minutes into the upgrade process, and I will say it is very slow on my Win2K machine with nothing else running. Granted, My collection is not small, but it takes over 30 seconds for the program to open, and selecting download updated profiles not only decided to update all 6,393 of my movies, but also took over 30 seconds to display. Hopefully, I will be ready to attack the hundreds of unconverted profiles soon. |

| Posted: | | | | As I was telling Ken, my system run fine all the time except when I go to --- Tools --- Option --- Display and check the box to "Auto Expand Box Sets", then the hole system slow down to a crawl. As long as it's not on Auto Expand Box set every thing is find.
I made a new copy of my data base and assigned numbers to all profiles and it still didn't matter, My next step is to delete all child profiles and see what happens. REALLY don't lite doing that, but if the problem can't be fixed then I will have to donate them to the recycle bin in hell.

| Posted: | | | | Since i first noted the slowness compared with 2.4/2.5 some areas have improved but: now that I'm getting more cast and crew episodes filled in, that slows it down. recently bought or com[letef all the mystery/detective series available. I have 635 TV series now and more on the way, I can't imagine how slow it will be if all these profiles ever get completely filled in.
Still very slow going from 'Ordered"/"Wsh List" to Owned' Memory or page memory are not full. Intel P4 dual processor/ 3.0m
Since I have tags for TV Series and Box Set and Box Member i removed the child profiles, using a test db I removed the TV series children no improvement. Reduced the profiles 6966 to 5043. I thought about run a db for TV and another for movies but the difference isn't worth the bother. Since I had this before, about all this exercise told me I had a couple of tags in the wrong place. | | | We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own. Ineptocracy, You got to love it.
