| Posted: | | | | I'm working on profiles for a couple of HBO series at the mo, and seem to have a conflict between the first studio, whether it should be "HBO" or "Home Box Office". The credits seems to appear thusly in the series I looked at:
- Opening ident: "HBO Entertainment" - Small print at end of credits: "Copyright xxxx, Home Box Office, Inc." - Closing Ident: "This has been a presentation of Home Box Office"
I only have a few HBO series, but the majority have "HBO" rather than "Home Box Office", with "HBO Video" where there is space for the home release studio. Which makes more sense to use? I'd be inclined to go with "Home Box Office", but as I say, "HBO" has the majority, at least in my collection. |

Being in the majority doesn't necessarily mean that they were right. As for your choices, you could either go with "HBO Entertainment" (per the opening ident) or "Home Box Office" (per the closing ident). |

| Posted: | | | | I would use the opening credits as that is where we get just about every other studio. Take Universal as an example. The opening credits are 'Universal Pictures' while the copyright is 'Universal Studios'. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. The only studio that comes to mind with an opening ident is HBO, and given that they have a closing one too, going with trends means the closing one. |

| Posted: | | | | HBO Entertainment seems not to have been used at all in the DB, changing to that would just be making the situation more confusing. It seems to be more of an introductory label than a business-oriented identifier, as in "here's some entertainment, from HBO". |

Just as with every other Studio nothing is consistent or remains the same. You will see HBO, HBO Films, HBO Entertainment, sometimes even Home Box Office Presents. Just go with the actual On Screen is, in this case.

| Posted: | | | | One important piece of information I failed to give is that the other production company idents are at the end prior to "This has been a presentation of Home Box Office". |

I think this reveals what the official name of the stuido is as it is what is seen with the copyright information. |

I agree. In the UK at least, a company has to put it's registered name by the copyright by law. In the US, it doesn't mean the same thing. Sometimes, as is the case with Universal, the name in the copyright is the name of the parent company. The name of the Studio owned by that company may be quite different. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | Resurrecting an old post... (didn't mean to resurrect the poll, though...) If it says HBO Entertainment in the opening credits, and then "This has been a presentation of Home Box Office" in the end credits, should maybe BOTH be included in the profile - if Home Box Office is the channel that aired the series, and HBO Entertainment is the production company? It looks like HBO Entertainment is a subdivision of Home Box Office (just like HBO Films): http://www.timewarner.com/corp/management/executives_by_business/hbo/index.html | | | Last edited: by Behemot |
