| Posted: | | | | Is it legal and okay to install 2 full version of profiler with the same serial number on two personal and privately owned computers if they will be used to catalog the same collection? I want to use the program on my main computer and my htpc I'm going to build. I'd enter the movies into my main computer, save to the online database and then import that database to my htpc in my living room. Simply accessing the online database from my htpc wouldn't be good enough because it lacks all of the filtering and search functions.
I've started the install process on my htpc, but it asks for a serial number, and I don't want to enter it in a second pc if I run the risk of violating the eula and thus voiding my valid serial number. If someone in the know could answer this question or point my in the right direction I'd be greatly appreciated.
same collection, same serial number, 2 pc's in the same house; is it okay? |

| Posted: | | | | Why have 2 running. I used to "share" dvdprofiler on the main computer. I then searched for the network path, folder, exe. etc. hen I added the shortcut to the desktop. It asked for my name and serial number once and been fine ever since. I just couldn't open 2 profilers at the same time. This was with 2.4, version 3 might be a little trickier (because off all the "other" directories and stuff), but I don't really see a problem. I haven't tried it on 3 yet as I brought a new house and haven't set up my network/htpc/projector yet. |

If it would be possible to even just share the database between two client PCs that would solve the following problem I have. We have DP running on a laptop, which I would like to keep that way because it is very easy to bring it to our HT room for updating profiles and such (rather than moving dvd boxes between rooms). However, I'm also very interested in the new Mobile version, but my PDA only syncs with my desktop PC in another room (which I also want to keep that way). Now, if I could install DP on that desktop with a database that is shared from the laptop (or with sharing the entire application as in your case), then I could easily synchronize the database with my PDA. Would that work ? |

It's probably easier on 3.0 given you can have separate databases for each collection | | | It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong |

Yes. I share the folder containing the profiler exe. I only have dvdprofiler technically installed on that 1 machine. Every other machine on my network runs that exe. Each machine downloaded its own profile list (or whatever its called), but it uses the same database.
In version 3, since the database it stored in a different directory/location and you are allowed to open/ have several databases, just share (Shared Folder in Windows) the database directory. The only catch is to make sure the machine is on. I have a media server always on, so I keep profiler on that machine. | | | Last edited: by sknyfs |
