I've been going over the contribution rules to see if I could find a rule for the use of sort titles, but haven't found any. Usually the sort title is the same as the movie title. For movies with sequels, the type of title often changes throughout the series (digit, roman digits, no digits, ...). When you sort your collection alphabetically, these movies get out of order.

If we make a rule where we change the sort title to the name of the first movie followed by a digit, you can have chronological ordering. For example for the Halloween series, use Halloween 1, Halloween 2,... as sort titles. If the series is a boxset, you can use the first movie title without a digit as a sortname for the box, this way it gets listed before the movies.

If we change the profiles in our database this way, can we still contribute them, or should we keep them locally.

Which is exactly why I launched this question Skip. Now that I know the sort titles don't get uploaded I know I can still upload my profiles without messing with other peoples databases, because it is like you said a personal preference!

Even if the sort title was contributable, you could still contribute your profiles because when you upload the profile, the system lets you select which sections of the profile you want to contribute and which you don't.
