Hi,

Not sure if this has been addressed before, but found nothing using search.

I have just bought a boxset with 100 movies, containing 24 DVDs in envelopes, each DVD double-sided and containing on average 2 movies on each side. (Bunch of horror movies, couldn't resist the price of around US$20 on Amazon!)

So, I'd like to make each envelope a boxset to cover the movies on the disc, but then also add all the envelopes to higher level boxset to cover the full set.

Not sure if this makes enough sense, or is there another way of doing it?

If I understand you correctly, you will have 24 Box Set profiles, not allowing you to add the actual box as a parent profile to all. Also, assuming that the envolopes don't have UPCs, the adding by Disc-IDs will be rather messy, I think.

If I had such set, I would create one Box Set with 48 children (one for each side, profiling two movies together in each profile).

Yeah, at the moment the program won't allow a boxset of boxsets, so ya-shin's idea does sound like the best. Have one parent profile with 48 children.
Then if the nesting becomes available in the future, you'll already have the profiles ready to organise into envelopes.

That's exactly the situation, yes, no UPCs. I found around 60 or so of the 100 movies listed in some or other form in the existing 280K profile database. Maybe I should stick this on the shelf and only profile it when I retire in 20 year's time ... or hopefully someone else has done it by then ...

I haven't thought of that one, but one would theoretically want to mark the whole disc out if you lent it to somebody, rather than having to check out both sides - assuming that you wouldn't give the whole boxset out unless you're not expecting it back.    (Theoretical because it doesn't happen often that I lend out my discs.)

...nesting...

I was trying to remember that word, but it just kept on escaping me! I was seeing those little Russian wooden dolls in my mind's eye...

Well, if the physical disc is somewhat importnat, then just make a Box Set with 24 children...

You'll end up with a title like

Count Dracula and his Vampire Wives / Crimes at the Dark House / Crypt of the Living Dead / Curse of the Headless Horseman

but all hail to DVD Profiler ... it doesn't complain about the length of the title. It might have something to say about the merits of the movies, though!
