| Posted: | | | | Anyone have one of these? I bought one tonight, and am very impressed with the job it does. Tried it out on Night at the Museum, and noticed a major difference. | | | "I am Andrew Ryan and I am here to ask you a question: Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his own brow?
No, says the man in Washington. It belongs to the poor. No, says the man in the Vatican. It belongs to God. No, says the man in Moscow. It belongs to everyone.
I rejected those answers. Instead, I chose something different. I chose the impossible. I chose… Rapture." |

| Posted: | | | | i just got an LG DN798. it does both 1080p and 1080i, as well as 720p and regular old 480p. i've only had it a week, but the picture is crystal. stay away from the samsung DVD-HD860. i had started with this unit and it never worked properly; it even came with a sheet and things to do if the picture was scrambled...not confidence building. krik | | | "Vampirism is still not a disease, Julia. | Posted: | | | | the Denon 3910 does fantastic up conversion, sounds incredible (SACD & DVD-A), and can be found for new for less than half it's original MSRP. It's still old school standard def, but a very solid player. When Denon builds a HiDef player, I'll go there. |

| Posted: | | | | I also have the Oppo DV-981HD and being able to set it to 1080p on my 1080p set has made a big difference. DVD's look great! I recommend this player. It cannot be beaten for the price. |

| Posted: | | | | Just installed an OPPO 981 on my 50" plasma yesterday and even at 1080i it is very impressive. I viewed a couple of discs (on both the OPPO and my old DVD player) that had some annoying digital artifacts that I always noticed when watching them and was surpised to see how well the OPPO took care of those problems. (In fact, had a friend and his wife stopped by later in the day, they offered to buy my set plus OPPO if I decide to replace with a 1080P set this summer. My dealer is even willing to honor the remaining 2 years of my extended warranty to them as well. It's almost like I can't give myself a good reason not to upgrade.) Even the surround sound was more enjoyable through it. For $229 direct from the manufacturer it's a terrific buy. |

| Posted: | | | | I just bought the Toshiba d-vr6 (Canadian model very similar to the US d-vr600 & d-vr650 models) which must be the swiss-army knife of DVD players. It is DVD-R/RW/RAM recorder, with an NTSC tuner (the 600 has none and the 650 has an ATSC tuner) and a VCR. In terms of upconverting it will do 480p/720p/1080i and it upconverts everything INCLUDING the VHS output. Not that VHS tape looks a lot better at 1080i (although I think it does, just a little) but using a single HDMI cable for outputting everything is just flat-out cool. The unit has a couple quirks, but the quality difference when it upconverts a DVD is very impressive, much more so than I was expecting. |
