| Posted: | | | | can you give us a context?
If, as an example, you say Buffy the Vampire Slayer was "created by" Joss Whedon, then he'd get an "original characters by" writing credit, but this may not fit your circumstances. |

| Posted: | | | | That's a difficult one - I see what you mean. In this particular case I don't think we can credit him - I don't think he came up with the characters for any series except the 1st one. Doesn't he tend to get an "executive producer" credit anyway? |

| Posted: | | | | well, he was alive and kicking when he recreated st as tng, so i think he gets credit for that too. i was just going through all the movies in my database. the opening credits all read: Star Trek Created by Gene Roddenberry the original release profiles have "characters by", but someone has changed that to "original material by" for the special editions. i think original charaters is more accurate; presuming that original material means existing stories/premises that have been adapted for the screen. but that's just moi and the minions... krik | | | "Vampirism is still not a disease, Julia. | Posted: | | | | I think he should be credited, since he is the brain behind the Star Trek. His work has inspired others to make more of Star Trek. But that's just me. I don't think Star Trek would have existed without him (But that's just me speculating). Either way, Star Trek would have looked different without him. |

| Posted: | | | | of course he should. it comes down to characters or material. for tos and tng, i say characters. for ds9, voyager, and enterprise, i lean toward material as the concept of star trek was their basis with characters and format created by others. now getting a concensus on something star trek ain't gonna be easy... krik | | | "Vampirism is still not a disease, Julia. Yes, he is "executive producer" in TOS and TNG (and is also, atleast for TNG credited as Created by). He is also Screenwriter and producer in "Star Trek: The Motion Picture". And as far as I recall, I have seen this on everything I have seen on Star Trek(Both the movies and series). I think he should be credited, but as what? That is the question |

I know. But that goes for all LOL, I'm a bit scared to reply now! Actually, I'd forgotten about the "original material by" credit, and it does seem to fit better. After all, he did create the Star Trek "universe" on which everything else is based. So I'd go for that one above the others. | | | Last edited: by northbloke |

| Posted: | | | | don't be scared...but very scared... as a consistent credit to be applied across 5 tv shows and 10 (soon to be 11) movies, i would not argue with material by. krik | | | "Vampirism is still not a disease, Julia. Vampires are the living dead...dead...dead..." |

| Posted: | | | | hadn't heard that. am i going to have to jump to startrek.com now? later... which i did and after knocking about a bit found this tidbit on the mtv website (don't ask): 'Casting has not yet officially begun on the flick, which is scheduled to film in the fall. The writers won't even confirm which characters appear. ("We never said Bones was in it," Orci seemed to joke.) As for recent rumors that Matt Damon, Adrien Brody and Gary Sinise were being considered to play the storied Kirk, Spock and McCoy trio, the duo were reluctant to spill the beans. Asked if they would be happy if Kirk were played by Damon, a long pause followed. Finally Kurtzman allowed, "I'm the hugest Matt Damon fan ever. If he became [Kirk], great."' solid as fog... krik | | | "Vampirism is still not a disease, Julia. Vampires are the living dead...dead...dead..." | | | Last edited: by Krikarian |

krik Man, they better come up with a rip-snorter, crackerjack of a plot. All the original characters are dead, except for Sulu and Checkov, and they were senior captains in the last movie. Even Picard and his bunch are getting long in the tooth. I can't see them going back to pre-Kirk days like the last TV series either. I don't think the fans will stand for it. | | | John
