| Posted: | | | | I'm currently checking through my Region 3 DVDs (almost exclusively purchased from CDWOW) for the correct locality and I need some assistance. I have many which are currently in the database as Hong Kong but I suspect that they may be wrong and should be assigned to the recently added Thailand locality. The profiles in question have no ratings anywhere on the cover and all have Thai soundtracks. Would I be right in saying that all Hong Kong DVDs will have ratings? A typical example: | | | Stuart |

| Posted: | | | | Not all HK DVDs have ratings. Most of the ones like your example are sold across a few Asian countries including HK, so adding them under the HK locality is fine. |

| Posted: | | | | I know it's only from wikpedia but this is why I asked about the ratings. Quoting: Wikpedia Quote: Legal Requirements
According to the laws of Hong Kong, any movies that are intended to be shown in Hong Kong cinemas or released to the public via any videotape or disc formats must screened by the TELA and have a rating issued by its director. Only educational movies and movie trailers do not receive ratings. | | | Stuart |

| Posted: | | | | I don't know about that but wouldn't be surprised if it amounts to no more than a sticker across the back that CD-WOW have either removed or they or their supplier have not put on, like this Region 3 Malaysian release I have of CONSTANTINE that I got from AxelMusic: I have a Hong Kong release of The Office: Christmas Specials which has no rating, is in PAL not NTSC, and has a UK BBFC rated disc inside the case: The R3 Army of Darkness is sold in Hong Kong and also bears no rating: And here is the Hong Kong release of Hero (director's cut) that has no rating at all: | | | Last edited: by Squirrelecto |

I'll leave them as Hong Kong. It also fits with CDWOW being a Hong Kong based company. | | | Stuart |

Those DVDs with the blank UPC field and the strange number inside are used in several countries. Not sure about HK, but in Taiwan they add a sheet of paper that covers the back and wraps around to cocer a third of the front, where the description is in Chinese, the rating is shown, etc. Also the local UPC is on that sheet. I often add them by Disc-ID, so that I can find the profile which is used by a larger userbase. | | | Achim [諾亞信; Ya-Shin//Nuo], a German in Taiwan. Registered: May 29, 2000 (at InterVocative) |

Same we have here in Holland, many releases are the same in Holland and Belgium, since we speak the same language. My experience with Thai DVDs is that you'll recognize them from a mile away . There is almost always thai written text on the cover. | | | | | | Last edited: by BlackStar |

It's not clear on the pic - photographer's fault -, but until about 60% (with the 2 thai text boxes on top of the other) it's printed in the DVD box. From there to the right it's a sticker with the seal (a bit dim, bad photographer again) and the registry number | | | With every passing hour our solar system comes forty-three thousand miles closer to globular cluster M13 in the constellation Hercules, and still there are some misfits who continue to insist that there is no such thing as progress. |
