| Posted: | | | | Ok, today I saw a contribution for Twister: DTS (085391-832126). lyonsden5 was removing the DTS edition as its not mentioned anywhere on the front cover. Which is totally true.
However, as someone who also owns Twister (085392-010028) which doesn't have DTS, I decided to vote no. As the edition is a 'standard' edition and does help distinguish between versions.
The rules state :-
The Edition field is for distinguishing between DVDs,....
and later :-
It's usually safe to use one of the built-in selections if appropriate. If you are using a non-standard description, take it from the DVD box, and ensure it will help distinguish between different releases of the same title.
So, as its a standard built-in selection it doesn't have to be from the DVD box. Interestingly the rules don't actually say 'Front cover', just 'DVD box'. So the fact its a tiny logo on the back cover is actually ok as well.
Anyway, lyonsden5 says he's going to withdraw as 6 yes and 1 no doesn't make it right, but as I've locked my title I don't really care enough, but thought I'd open it up for comments.
To me, because there are mutliple releases of the same dvd in the same region/locality does mean we can have an edition set if there is something different between them. In this case, one has DTS and one doesn't. The fact it doesn't have 'DTS' in a banner across the cover shouldn't matter. | | | Home of the phpDVDProfiler forums |

There is NO Edition listed on Twister for DTS, therefor there is none in the Profile.

Editions are for distinguishing between 2 versions. It doesn't mention anywhere that the cover actually has to say 'DTS' or 'Widescreen'. | | | Home of the phpDVDProfiler forums |

| Posted: | | | | Skip, the rules only say Quote: If you are using a non-standard description, take it from the DVD box, and ensure it will help distinguish between different releases of the same title. they don't say there has to be something on the cover in order to have something in this field. The field is designed to be used for "distinguishing between DVDs". I think in this case it would be correct to leave the DTS. FWIW I pulled the contribution as I said I would. In my notes I said for someone to correct me if I was wrong in the submission. It is not an ordinary dist trait. I'm glad Andy brought it here for discussion. |

Istill object to adding a bunch of extraneous data such as Widescreen, WHICH is redundant and is contained elsewhere within each and EVERY profile and so is DTS. We are loading up the database with so much redundant data it is staggering.

Skip Skip it is not parsing. it's reading what is clearly written. | | | Signature banned: Reason out of date... |

| Posted: | | | | Plain and simple:
Without the "DTS" addition, you'll have the same title twice in the online db with different UPCs and no way to even understand why (unless - of course - you're one of the very few people in the world who own the famous "Book of UPCs", a legendary source of infinite wisdom regarding DVD releases (I don't address anyone present in this thread so far with this remark!)) before taking an in depth look at the profile and the audio sub section.
It's a lot easier to add a description explaining the different UPCs at first glance. And it doesn't hurt.
Even if the rules didn't support this approcach (but they do), I personally would advocate the use of the description.
IMO, THAT is what the field is all about: giving you some information about the version of the DVD carrying a specific UPC at first glance. Nothing more, nothing less. | | | Lutz |

| Posted: | | | | I agree with all those who are agreeing! As I recall this is something that has been around since the Guidelines, long before the Rules, so only Ken would know the intent (although the intent of the rules are Kens to clarify anyway). | | | Andy
