| Posted: | | | | I'm rather unsure about this but is there anyway to determine whether a title I have in my local collection is also in the main DVD Profiler database? I read in another forum/thread that one could view on Last Edited in Collection by List and sort by date and that "likely" all titles prior to this version's rollout (12-Mar?) could be considered for contribution.
I tried tweaking a title that was showing as last edited 3/4/07 in my local coll. and then I contributed. I found that another person had previously done this 3/12 and was already approved.
I guess what I'm asking is to find a way to determine this to avoid sometimes alot of extra work if someone else has already submitted the profile and been approved.
I'm not the most adept at working this program so your patience is appreciated. |

| Posted: | | | | A good way to see how your current profile compares to the online db, you can Preview Changes. (MENU: Onlne / Refresh DVD from Invelos / Preview Changes....) DVDProfiler will download the online copy and the comparison screen will show you any differences. If your data is more complete or more accurate than the existing profile and is within the rules then you could contribute changes. If nothing shows up but a message that the title could not be found, then that profile is not yet in the online db, and needs to be contributed. The only other thing you might see is No Differences Detected, which of course means the two profiles are the same and nothing more needs to be done. When you contribute, if there are contribution notes that are new (not approved or declined and usually less than 4 days old) that contribution could be pending and the notes should tell you what the contributor is changing. If they are changing the same thing you want to change, you can go over to the voting page by clicking on the Database button (I usually have it opened in a separate tab anyway) at the top of every forum page to look at the contribution. Hope I have not confused you too much. | | | Kevin |

| Posted: | | | | Up until the last paragraph. I will keep your info on hand when I encounter situations where others are in the process of contributing profiles for the same title simlutaneously. It will no doubt make more sense at that time.
The rest of your information is most helpful and logical. I should have seen the obvious move on using the refresh on the individual DVD profile & image for a title.
I've been through the Contribution Notes thoroughly. However, as I feel a few of the rules are a bit too nit picking for my taste, the majority are quite reasonable.
Thanks! |

If the Rule is too nit picky then that data should NOT be Contributed, only Contribute data that conforms to the Rules.. You can maintain whatever you wish locally.

| Posted: | | | | Skipnet, I was only offering an opinion about some of the contribution rules as I felt some of them were too "anal" (?) to my way of looking at this program. Others may disagree, though I would wager that most of us feel this way at least about one of these rules. Ultimately, it doesn't matter and "at present" these are the bylaws and this is the process and I will of course follow them. The rate of change/update with this program and the database is astounding. These rules may invite another version change in a couple of months. Who knows! |

The basic of the Rules will remain the same, they are done that way for vert specific resaons. Do they need updated yes, there are changes in the program that require updating in the Rules and there are things that have been learned since the Rules were written that require tweaking. You haven't specified but I could guess what you are referring to, there is a method to the madness and a reason for everything.

| Posted: | | | | I have a large collection and have started to systematically check for profiles not in the on-line db to help out with new contributions. Of the group I've checked since yesterday I found three that encountered an odd problem. When trying to Preview Changes I got two error messages: 1) Unable to download file then - 2) Error- Download of profile file failed or was skipped. The DVD Profiler Troubleshooter Guide was of no help in this instance. Not sure what this portends. Could these be titles that are not in the Invelos db? If so, wouldn't I have received a "Profile Not Found" message or something? The titles at issue are: AFI's 100 Years, 100 Movies The Anderson Trial (1970) David and Lisa (older Fox Lorber release) |

| Posted: | | | | Probably those titles are not yet in the database, so you should probably contribute them. | | | Kevin |

| Posted: | | | | Ok. I guess I'm trying to confirm that this is the case. You state previously I should be receiving a title not found. If this is a guess on your part please let me know. Seems odd that an error message would be generated instead of some message stating DVD Pro couldn't find the profile. Ultimately, I simply want to be sure it is not some problem with my computer or a download issue. |

| Posted: | | | | Chazcdc54,
I think the download error message you get means "title not found". It has been several days since I uploaded my non-existent profiles and I had forgotten exactly what the message was, so I apologize for any confusion.
But, you can submit, and if you get a window opening up with a place to enter contribution notes, then some form of a profile exists, if you only get a little pop-up box that says contribution accepted, then no profile was existing in the online db. If there is a profile existing, you will have an opportunity to see what is different, and if you so chose you can cancel. | | | Kevin |
