I'm not so sure it's automated or if it is there's something else in the process/equation.  I've had contributions that meet that statement which have taken up to 14 days.

Then those particular contributions have, for some reason, been promoted to second-level reviewing. As mentioned before, that includes contributions that are entirely new, contributions that contain new birth years, and contributions that draw no-votes. Note that a withdrawn no-vote doesn't help: once a contribution is moved to second-level reviewing queue, it stays there, even if the no-vote(s) is/are withdrawn later on. That list of examples is, however, not exhaustive. For instance, the use of certain words in the contribution notes can also trigger an automatic promotion to second-level reviewing.

You seem to have more insight into the contribution process or is that info documented somewhere?

I have over 30 contributions stiil in queue. Of those 11 were contributed on September 11 with no votes for or against. None are especially debatable contributions. No birthyears. Just adding disc-ids for 4K Ultra HD, correcting overviews, subtitles, audio tracks and such. So something out of the ordinary does indeed seem to be going on.

I contributed 2 new disc based profiles for deathstalker and the sequel deathstalker 2 for the uk Blu-ray release from 101 films and they are still being processed, while the contribution I made afterwards to the parent profile to add these child profiles was approved today.

That's happened a lot with me as well. The change to the parent profile, adding the child, is usually processed and approved in about five days, but the new child profile seems to wait for two weeks before the approved and released.

Again, changes to an existing profile only go through (automatic) "first-level" evaluation, while the creation of a new profile is automatically promoted to (manual) "second-level" evaluation - that's why they aren't processed at the same time. It's been that way for years and years - the only thing that has changed is that "second-level" evaluation is being done a lot less frequently nowadays, so it can actually take weeks.

"New Additions" for me too, are indeed taking far, far longer than they ever have before.

My earliest new profile has now been sitting there for 14 days. That's literally the longest I have ever had to wait so far.

Several new profiles I submitted on October 27th were approved yesterday, so 14 days seems about par for them at the moment.
