| Posted: | | | | There are three profiles for Song of the South in the online database; a Spanish bluray, a Taiwanese DVD and an Australian DVD.
Am I correct in thinking that these are all bootlegs? I'm sure that none of them have been authorized by Disney, but is there any of these countries where the copyright does not apply?
I just bought the Spanish bluray, and I audited and updated the profile locally, but I hesitate to contribute my changes since I believe that it is indeed a bootleg.
I normally don't buy bootlegs unless it's a film that I consider important and it's not otherwise available. If it does become available, I will upgrade to the legit release. In this case, I suspect that pigs will fly before Disney releases the movie. A pity, because this release isn't terribly good, but it's better than nothing. | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users. Gunnar |

| Posted: | | | | Spain's copyright laws has led to loads of stuff being released there that isn't available anywhere else. A famous example is the only Blu-ray release of 'True Lies' that currently exists - also in DVD Profiler's database under EAN 8-435479-605487. That Spanish release of 'Song of the South' falls in the same EAN-range. Companies like Disney or Fox certainly don't approve of this, but as far as I can tell these are considered legitimate in Spain. They're readily available through legimite sources, like amazon.es: https://www.amazon.es/Canci%C3%B3n-1946-Song-South-Blu-ray/dp/B09BDXRLNB/https://www.amazon.es/Mentiras-Arriesgadas-1994-True-Blu-ray/dp/B089GHS1KM/Given all that, coupled with the fact that the profile you're working on has already been accepted into the database, I see no real problem in you submitting your corrections/additions to that existing profile. | | | Last edited: by T!M |

Bought :D Ok, sorry, doesn't help with your question Just don't expect HD quality just because its on blu-ray. I'm curious as to how this was produced. It has Spanish, Castilian, English, Italian and German audio. Not what you usually get on bootlegs. | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users. Gunnar |

It doesn't matter whether or not the copyright is recognized by Spain, Tiawan or Australia. If it's not authorized by Disney it's a bootleg, and not a legitimate profile and should be removed from the online database. We whine and cry about IMDb data in the online database, and then we want to pollute it with bootleg discs. Incredible! --------------- |

You may perhaps not have intended it, but since it was me that you quoted, it felt like your comment was directed at me. So I would just like to point out that I stated: Quote: I hesitate to contribute my changes since I believe that it is indeed a bootleg. | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users. Gunnar |

| Posted: | | | | this movie is one of those releases that was hit by cancel culture before it was a thing. this was released on vcr tapes and laserdiscs back in the day and then boom one day disney put it in the vault and said it would never be released again. to me its like book banning. i have some copies of books from the 60's and 70s that have been banned but i dont consider them bootlegs. every country has different laws about copyright and thats why some countries get releases on dvd and blu ray that the U.S. does not get. however, i am probably in the minority with my mindset | | | Last edited: by drvrjon |

It was not directed at you, since your first sentence made it clear that you felt these were bootlegs, and I didn't mean to imply that you approved of such profiles. --------------- |

As it's in public domain in Japan, it could have a legal release there if a company wanted to do so, though I doubt that would happen. Equally, I doubt it will ever have an official Disney release again. it's too hot button, even if they tried to put it in context and release it in a collector/film historian sort of way (like the old Walt Disney Treasures sets or something). | | | If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world. -- Thorin Oakenshield |
