It seems that some of the contributors didn't recognize the chance of the "Alternative Version(s)" for a Disc ID. Actually I have to block a huge load of cover updates for the Series "Die Schlümpfe".

When I bought the box with the complete Series, I created child profiles for every single discs. Nobody did for them before. But now it seems that someone has bought the single seasons which have the same discs/Disc IDs. But instead of creating alternative versions (to avoid further replacements or blocks or whatever) all the covers of my child profiles have been replaced. Sorry, but this sucks!

According to all the troubles I had within the last two years blocking "wrong" updates - or at least parts of them - I am more and more disappointed (not to say "angry") and would like to know if I am the only one who thinks that kind of a "driving license" should be neccessary for contributers.

I could mention a load of other points:
- No check of CLT before changing a name (suddenly I get an update, replacing "John Rhys-Davies" (294/2126) with "John Rhys Davies" (61/98) and have to ask contributers: Have you ever heard about CLT and how to handle it?)
- Stupid re-parsing the wrong way (e g. before: "John - Smith IV", update: "John - Smith - IV")
The same suddenly with middle names like "De" or "Van" and so on

Some now might say that I could vote for contributions. I agree, but as I am working on countless profiles every day for more than a year, typing cast & crew for empty profiles, correcting/merging several versions of a name to the CLT-Version, I simply don't have the time to check the other contributions.

But if there would be any kind of a "test" to make sure that all contributers know not only the rules but also the technical possibilities like the "Alternative Version", this would avoid soooo much unneccessary work to be done.

re-parsing the wrong way (e g. before: "John - Smith IV", update: "John - Smith - IV")
middle names like "De" or "Van"

These do not change in YOUR local database. I have tons of De/de, Van/van and Smith/IV /Smith IV examples in my database. Whenever a contribution comes up with those changes highlighted, I ignore those because I know that Van is not going to change to van, and so on.
And the CLT: Some users go by the raw numbers, which is not always the correct way to do it. Unique titles is the thing you want to keep in mind. So those 294 Rhys-Davies profiles aren't 294 unique titles and the 61 Rhys Davies profiles could actually be a greater number of UNIQUE profiles, thus making it the common name. Larger number of profiles doesn't always mean larger number of titles. It could be a lot of disc-level television or box set profiles skewing the unique title count.
My one wish for the DVD Profiler online database: Ban or remove the disc-level profiles of TV season sets. It completely screws up/inflates the CLT.
FACT: Imdb is WRONG 70% of the time! Misspelled cast, incomplete cast, wrong cast/crew roles. So for those who want DVD Profiler to be "as perfect as Imdb", good luck with that.
Stop adding UNIT crew! They're invalid credits. Stop it!

I know that. But just imagine you get updates for e. g. 100 profiles - and don't need to control any of them!

That's why I "Refresh Updated Profiles from Invelos" every day, to keep that 100 number way way down.

I actually refresh (nearly) every day - and have at least 30 - 50 updates. Mostly caused by all my own contributions and partially some others, too. And for sure cause by the size of my collection.

During the last ond and a half years I checked all my profiles which don't have "official" data (for some I simply used IMDB for myself as I didn't have time when I bought them) and now I filled all of them with the from the credits.

During that process I allready recognized some cast & crew with several versions, checked CLT and corrected the other profiles with "similar" members, and sometimes there were up to five versions of the same name. And now that I am through my whole collection I "only" have to type the data for the last bought seasons, then I can spend all the time "only" for duplicate search and corrections. It made no sense to start this job before all data is official. And we all know that there are countless cast- and crew-members credited in several versions. Whenever I use the database repair, there are deleted the no more used people of cast & crew, and within the last 18 months this way I was lucky to "loose" about 1500 cast- and more than 1000 crew-members.

Some are satisfied with the IMDB data. But while typing all my officially still "empty" profiles I had to find out that a lot of the data is not even part of the IMDB. Within that time I am actually at about 6000 released contributions (and 2 or 3 declined), and the worst job will become all the ones which can't be clariefied via CLT and nead a common name selections. So far I try to avoid those threads, as long as there are enough others to handle, but they will come. Just imagine clearing up all the duplicates and this way reducing the number of cast or crew members for 10 % or more...

And now imagine the load of time I spent in doing this! Creating not yet existing child profiles etc. And then someone else comes, doesn't use (or doesn't even know) the "Alternative Version" and all the initial child profiles you have created (in case of the "Smurfs"-Series more than 40) get (wrongly) new covers as the contributor was either too lazy to create alternative versions or - like mentioned before - didn't know about them. And we have a HUGE load of series where this happened to me.... That's very disappointing and on some days it simply makes me angry. That's why I still hope that someone responds on the idea of a "license to contribute" to avoid crap like that.

I actually remember taking a test to qualify for contributing, perhaps back in the Intervocative days.

And it doesn't stop.... could someone finally teach those "Wannabe"-Contributors the meaning and sense of the CLT? I just got another senseless update, replacing "Dwayne Johnson" (194/1657) with "Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson" (16/77)

We urgently need a change! More than half of the updates I got within the last few days I had to block as they replaced correct data in the profiles with wrong!
