Flag profile, File -> Backup Database... -> Back up flagged entries only enter a name and press OK or flag profile, File -> Create Profile File, which would leave out the covers, which might be advisable depending on jurisdiction. Now upload file(s) to a fitting hoster. | | | Mithi's little XSLT tinkering - the power of XML --- DVD-Profiler Mini-Wiki |

Quote: Das würde ich gern mal an einem Beispiel ausprobieren, falls Du eines zur Verfügung stellen kannst. Caveat: I would STRONGLY advise you (and every one else) to use a secondary database for that! The profile-file is rather harmless but even there I fear the possibility of colliding IDs, to import simply double click. The Backup-file can be rather volatile, I have a custom category "Streaming" and the title I backed up was in there. Restoring the backup on another DVD Profiler means that it will have the same category afterwards. To prevent that I moved the profile to "Owned" and backed it up again. To import use File -> Restore Database -> Browse [choose file] Next -> Restore Specific Profiles -> OKRestore Specific Profiles is absolutely vital, course otherwise the current database gets wiped!"Old Guard" (profile-file), "One of Us" (Backup) | | | Mithi's little XSLT tinkering - the power of XML --- DVD-Profiler Mini-Wiki |

| Posted: | | | | there is still the long way to go. I did that with the example of the film "Thunder Force (German)", and I hope that the film will find its way into the database. 1. Create a new DVD with NEROVision using the file on the hard drive. 2. Select a "DVD Image" as the target. 3. After successfully creating the image, mount it as a DVD, for example. with "daemontools light" 4. Now start the DVDProfiler and add the "inserted DVD" to the collection and complete it with further data. It's too cumbersome for me to do that for many DVDs. I just wanted to check the feasibility ... EDIT: who is a "second level reviewer" | | | Last edited: by Cpt.Hardy |

Cost effective to store a single movie, sure...my entire collection, well that's a different story. Ok, so I downloaded your database from your online using the ScrapeGoat tool from BulkEdit (profiles only). Here is my talley: 3867 DVD Only (x 8GB max) = approx 31 TB 76 DVD+BD (x 58GB max) = approx 4.5 TB 36 4K+BD (x 150GB max) = approx 5.4 TB 283 BD Only (x 50GB max) = approx 14.2 TB Total approximately 55 TB assuming only 1 disc of each type in the profile, so this is a low estimate of course. Real number is possibly twice as much? But just for grins, I have two servers with over 55TB each ( one running about half the day from solar, the other is a backup, runs only a few times a month). So those numbers are not crazy. Cost of 55TB using 8TB drives - Toshiba X300 8TB $200 x 7 = $1400 Cost of 55TB using 14TB drives - Seagate Exos X16 14TB 7200 RPM $300 x 4 = $1200 Cost of 55TB using 18TB drives - Seagate Exos X18 18TB Enterprise HDD $400 x 3 = $1200 All approximations of course. Just did this as a curious exercise, not meaning to start any big fight. I have seen some people spend as much on cabinets and cases. I have spent even more on DVD and BD Changers for far fewer discs. I'm just sayin' ... | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. Hey, new product!!! --------------- Not really. The discs themselves are the backups. My servers by the way, are not ripped DVDs. Other stuff. Anyway, it was just an exercise for fun to get a ballpark. 1 ballpark or 2 ballparks - no matter. Edit: On second thought I guess you are right. I mean, to rip 4000 discs at even 10 a day would take over a year, and not leave time for much else. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. Update: I now consider using a second database for the security of your collection a MUST, at least for backup-files. Quote: The profile-file is rather harmless but even there I fear the possibility of colliding IDs, to import simply double click. And even an ID collision is cared for, you get a comparison screen just like with any profile update. And the file is named e.g. M100023.5.dvdprofiler, so you see the ID beforehand. Biggest downside is still that you'd have to share the covers separately. (ZIP-file?) Quote: The Backup-file can be rather volatile, Unfortunately this also proofed to be true, in case of an ID collision the existing profile simply gets wiped. In the restoring backup dialogue there is a "Never Overwrite" option which did not work for me! I only tested for Manual-entries so maybe it isn't the case for UPC/EAN- or Disc-ID-based profiles. | | | Mithi's little XSLT tinkering - the power of XML --- DVD-Profiler Mini-Wiki | | | Last edited: by Mithi |

| Posted: | | | | Nice ideas guys! Adding to the mix:
- instead of separately, package the covers along with the profile file into a zip - something like M100023.5.dvdprofiler.zip - simple tool or plugin to export (in bulk by flagged) or install the zip package(s) (select multiple from file dialog)
- auto phpProfiler generator / sync from a folder of zip files (aw, now I've gone too far!!!!) | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. Hey, new product!!! BDPFrog. | | | Last edited: by mediadogg |

| Posted: | | | | Quoting mediadogg: Quote: - instead of separately, package the covers along with the profile file into a zip That was kinda what I was thinking. I was (needlessly) concerned about box-sets, but obviously that isn't any problem, throw them all in one zip. In my defense I'm running a fever and the noggin doesn't work properly. Quote: - simple tool or plugin to export (in bulk by flagged) or install the zip package(s) (select multiple from file dialog) Yes, would be nice if export/import were automatable, so the process is usable for all Profiler users. Not to be doom and gloom but there might come a point (many years away!!!) where such a mechanism would necessary to continue sharing profiles. | | | Mithi's little XSLT tinkering - the power of XML --- DVD-Profiler Mini-Wiki |
