| | Posted: | | | | I am confronted with mainly (not exclusively) czech characters in a profile I am working on. I've already read this post but I'm still not sure wether I understand it correctly. Here is how I understood it so far and how it would affect my current need: á, é, í, ó, ú, ý → á, é, í, ó, ú, ýSÁRA ARNSTEINOVÁ → Sára Arnsteinová PETR HEDVÁBNÝ → Petr Hedvábný IGOR POKORNÝ → Igor Pokorný š, ž → š, ž IVAN MAREŠ → Ivan Mareš TEREZA HUŠKOVÁ → Tereza Hušková ć → cč → cě → eř → rMARTIN VAČKÁŘ → Martin Vackár JIŘÍ ŠIMEK → Jirí Šimek VÁCLAV VANĚČEK → Václav Vanecek Lidija Škorućak → Lidija Škorucak (hypothetical at this point, but might turn up)Ď, ď → D, dPAVLÍNA ŽĎÁNSKÁ → Pavlína Ždánská Existing database entries for some names have replaced š, ž with s, z as well, I guess because it is not displayed correctly in all Profiler windows. Which is to prefer? So, am I close? Where am I wrong? |

| | Posted: | | | | Character encoding is based on something called code-tables which evolved over time when more and more languages needed to be supported. Unfortunately, DVD Profiler is stuck in a time where it only supports what is called Windows-1252. This is the basic Latin (i.e. English) alphabet and the Western European (i.e. German, French, Spanish, ...) languages and their special characters such as ä or é. Eastern European languages are not contained in Windows-1252 which is why characters that only exist in Czech (or others) don't work with DVD Profiler. You can find all the characters that do work, on this Wikipedia page. How to transcribe characters that do not work into Windows-1252 I do not know. | | | Karsten

I just did not know for sure if they are correct, incorrect or one of many possibilities.
Most of those listed above already are in the database with different versions. |
