Roolku's Skin for DVD Profiler Version 3

I've imported Roolku's DVD Profiler skin into a version 3 layout. You can obtain it from the Downloads portion of this invelos site.

Revision History

version 1.2.8 - import from Roolku's Skin version 1.2.8 (since 2.2.0 wouldn't import properly)
version 1.2.9 - fixed crew scrollbar, expanded full crew, added "watched" info, fixed Playing Time display
version 1.3.0 - clicking on UPC will take you to the DVD's contribution history on Invelos site

2.3.2 - Mithirandir's Java-Powered version available at:
ya_shin's site and
Doug's DVD Profiler Resource Centre.

I've managed to get the textual elements of the old skin display working. The trickier part is getting the special graphical pop-ups working, which made Roolku's skin so special. It may have something to do with the location of the Image folders changing. I'll see if I can do any more with those. Too bad good ol' Roolku wasn't around to help.

I've managed to get the UPC code clickable to open the URL for the contribution history; by simply changing the "intervocative" path to "invelos" - sometimes it's that simple.

It took awhile to figure out how to get the scrolling crew list working. There was some code which had to be updated for version 3 tags like "Playing Time" and "Watched on".

What yet doesn't work - galleries, trailer playback, headshots, title logos, the download skin, clickable cast and crew names, region icons, locality flags, audio and video icons, ratings logos... Anybody interested in helping to restore these features?

Note: this skin was originally conceived by Disc-Flipper (my old username on the Intervocative site), then taken to great heights by Roolku and his java coding skills. But Roolku has not been heard from for years. So I welcome anybody's assistance in fixing up this skin.

It would look good under different color schemes. Orignally based on the "Rainbow of Doom" theme, having the ability for people to easily change schemes to suit their tastes is a feature I'd like to implement.

Don't make the version part of the file name.  The site will overwrite existing files of the same name submitted by the same user.

Thanks for that info. I noticed with the old site how many versions of each layout and skins some users had uploaded. Could the site admins delete old versions if requested, or give the uploaders the ability to delete?

I might have a look, Doombear. Roolku's Skin inspired me very much to create mine and I have trailers, headshots and all the other stuff already working with v3. It could take some time though, I'm currentyl a little busy...

Galleries up and Running
Headshots up and Running
Region, Locality, Ratings, Audio and Video Icons up and running

I must now check for Trailers and Title Logos.

So, here we are.
The good News is: galleries, headshots, title logos, region icons, locality flags, audio icons, ratings logos... are all up and running.

Here for the bad news:
- posters and titles: they principially work. On the other side, someone changed their paths from the gallery folder and the name "poster.jpg" and "title.gif" to a separated folders "posters" and "titles" and different names, e.g. <upc>t.gif and <upc>p.jpg. I leaved this to the new setting but fear that this will mean some (unsolvable) troubles with the download section.
- trailer playback: I don't know if this will work as someone has (badly) rewritten Robert's original and working code.
- and video icons -> The Roolku Skin never supported them, neither does this one.
- the download skin: no chance without the applet (and I know what I'm saying)
- clickable cast and crew names: This seems to be a problem with DVD-Profiler V3 and has already been mentioned several times.

On the other hand, I felt free to remove dozens of internal images, which have somehow been copied from my skin. These images take away unnecessary space (Its's now about 220KB and was more then 1MB before), slow down the skin (all must be extracted) and aren't used either.

So, take a look at the current design:

Mithirandir

Mithirandir, that's amazing! Overnight, you've done wonders. You're a wizard! We'll need to stick your name on the skin as well. Where can we get your latest code reworkings?

The version you were working with was a severly hacked version of the 1.17 code.
If it will do any good, I've got all the old versions of Roolku's un-hacked code up to 2.2.0.
Thanks for your assistance. We'll need to add your name to the credits of this skin if you want.

So, there weren't any video icons? My memory fooled me. I did notice a slowness of the skin when flipping between different profiles; I wonder if it was caused by the internal images which you mentioned?

I guess I'll need to add Country of Origin. Where would it look best - after the production year or in the region/locality box?

On the old skin, I recall there was the option to stretch background textures rather than tile them.
Are the *.js files still used for customization options?

Where are various headshots/regions/ratings/audio images stored now? Under the DVD Profiler program folder or under the personal My Documents folder?

Because of the problems explained above I reworked the whole thing from scratch using the 2.2.0 release and now I got everything working: galleries, headshots, title logos, region icons, locality flags, audio icons, ratings logos, even the trailer playback and the download skin!

You can have a look at the following screenshots:

Thanks. I will have some people to test the skin, to do send me an e-mail.
In the long run, I think Achim (ya_shin) and DV-Doug can host it on their sites after we have played a little test-game.

I don't know but it could be, there were hundreds of unused images.

I've already inserted it as a kind of test near to the production year. We can - of course - move it to another place if you wish.

Yes, they are.

Headshots and Gallery items (including posters, titles and trailers) are located under the images folder within the database directory. This is normally <My Documents>\Databases\Default\Images.

I integrated Regions, Ratings and the Audio images within the skin where they belong after my opinion.

I also corrected LastWatched and the Contribution History (like you did) and integrated the download skin and the standard skin to a single layout.

Have Fun everybody.

You're welcome. I will send you a PM with details, where you can get the two layout files, eg. the one based on 1.2.8 (which consists of a single dpl file and doesn't need Java but lacks some nice features) and the layout based on 2.2.0 which consists of five files, has all features of it's Profiler 2.x counterpart but needs Java to fulfill some of the tasks.

I will drink a big beer now, I think I've earned that.

Update:
We will need some little graphics for the new audio formats with the same style as the present ones, e.g. for
- Dolby Digital EX
- Dolby Digital plus
- Dolby Digital TrueHD
- dts ES
- dts HD
- PCM
- MPEG

Perhaps, someone has some graphical talents and can provide us with this stuff.
Best regards,

Mithirandir

Mithirandir, glad to see that you used my reworked version as a base for your modification. My work feels not be a complete waste (although it was also quite same "hacking").

And yes, I'll be happily hosting this on my site, which is where 2.2.0 is being distributed form right now (properly credited to roolku and Disc-Flipper (a.k.a Doombear) of course). I am sure Doug will do the same.

Ya_shin, thanks. I have sent you the versions via e-mail, you can test them if you like.
As they are not complete - I hope someone can draw some icons for the new audio formats - I think we should wait a wile with the upload to the sites until it has been tested by a few people.
