Best Buy's search doesn't seem to work when linked to, but ALL you had to do is put UMD into the search engine.  Obviously, you weren't looking hard.  Let me help you out then.

[links]

How is that?

Geez, people!  I not asking difficult things here.  Just open your eyes and use a little brain power...PLEASE.

Uh, did you even read my post?  I thought for a second that maybe you just responded before I made my edits, but nope.. they're right there in your quote.  So, all we ask is that you actually read the posts before responding.  How hard is that?  Just takes, to quote something I heard recently, a little brain power.

It still doesn't change the fact that only Sony Pictures is releasing movies for UMD.  If that is your fallback plan and why Blu-ray is safe because Sony will still support a dead format, then no thanks.  Seems pretty pointless.  I'd rather just stick with regular DVD if that was the case.

The point was always (before SOME people just blew this out of proportion) that Blu-ray was safer.  I have proven that Sony would still support Blu-ray even if it lost (not likely to lose but you get my point).  That would automatically make it safer than HD DVD if they lost.  I rest my case.

EDIT: I must have read your post before you changed it then hit the quote button.  By that time you must have already changed the original post.

So....what does the dead movie format known as UMD have to do with Blu Ray vs HD DVD?

FYI my local future shop has stopped selling UMDs at 2 for $5....they have stopped selling them at all  There are none left on the shelves anyway....the other future shop near me has not had UMD for months...

PSPs are still cool...

The subject was Sony's movie support of Blu-ray was a safer bet than HD DVD would be if each won or lost (opposite scenarios...one wins the other loses).  Just SOME people took that and ran into left field with the UMD example I provided.

I haven't seen any proof.  I see you speculating, based on the fact that they still support UMD, that they will still support Blu-ray if it loses.  But speculation is not proof.

I'm glad you have such RECENT links.

See links above.  Recent day & date releases are on UMD.  How could that be true if there is no support?

Well A_S when I go to Google or Yahoo or even ASK.com and type in UMD I get hundreds of links to articles like the ones I quoted.  I don't see any links to information or articles about how it is surviving or even releasing new movies.  So in my opinion that means that all the relevant up to date news about UMD happened in 06 when it was announced dead!!!

Try it, go search UMD and see what comes up on Google, and I bet you won't find anything recent unless perhaps you search through the roughly hundreds of pages of link, all the relevant links state the same thing...UMD is DEAD!!!

For recent releases...all you had to do is look at the links I provided on pages 94 and 95, I believe.

Phase: HYDRA!!!

Anyone else picture Dr Evil sitting in his secret lair with a gang of henchman all being trained to be Phase: HYDRA agents, about to go out and conquer the world in the name of SONY's evil empire!!!  In the center of the room is a monstrous Laser being powered by the PS3, with the diabolical ability to morph simple minded individuals like A_S into mindless SONY Fanboy robots and Shills!!!

So THAT'S what all this Phase Hydra crap is suppose to be.

That sounds like HD DVD to me.  Amir and friends taking over AVS Forum and starting on Highdefdigest.com.  Follow the pattern.  That must actually be the name of MS viral marketing plan.  Think about it.  A hydra and a virus are very similar.  A virus will infect one area then spread to the next.  In myths, if you cut the head off a Hydra it will either grow another head or grow two in it's place.

That fits the A-man's movements.  Pattern recognition.

My original post (not my quote above) about this I said Sony would probably (something to that affect) continue to support Blu-ray.  There is a history of Sony support such things (recent example...UMD).

I'm just saying...this (in the unlikely scenario of Blu-ray losing) wouldn't be the first time supported an almost dead movie idea (not format).  The UMD format is what the PSP games are put on.

I know what UMDs are, I own 2 PSPs, but support for that format does not prove they will continue to support Blu-ray...which is what you just said.

This is VERY interesting.

Is the Bluray BD 1.1 Standard still-born Yet Again??

What is that site?  It's clear that it is just meant to carry the FUD from one person to the next (like a virus).  Is this a part of MS virus marketing plan...like the A-man going from AVS to highdefdigest.com?

Q1:2008 according to announcements from IFA

No one knows if the PS3 will receive an update for profile 1.1 this year or not.  Well, at least, Fox has titles coming out this year with profile 1.1 and 2.0 content.  To bad Warner doesn't seem to be following that example.

Keeping UMD alive is not the same as keeping Blu-Ray Alive!!!  UMD is a proprietary format made exclusively for the PSP and nothing else.  For the loyal PSP owners it only makes sense that Sony should continue to release some of its more recent hit movies on UMD to continue to support the PSP crowd even though every other studio has discontinued releases for the PSP.

The Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD situation is extremely different.  If HD-DVD comes out on top and every studio begins releasing films on HD-DVD, what makes you think that Sony will continue to release films on both formats, just to appease the Blu-Ray supporters that remain out there.

So this site is not legit because it is a possible HD-DVD site, yet you most often link your arguments to Blu-Ray.com and we are supposed to take that site as being an unbiased source of information???  Come on dude, you can't have it both ways!!!

I know what UMDs are, I own 2 PSPs, but support for that format does not prove they will continue to support Blu-ray...which is what you just said.

Sony did own a movie studio until 1989.  Therefore, what other examples of providing audio or video content would there be?  CDs are still going strong.  Sony still gets partial royalties from the compromise for what is now known as DVD.  Blu-ray is still in the lead.  What's left?

I proved that it is likely the Sony would continue movie support for Blu-ray in the highly unlikely event that it would lose.

Speaking od dead sony formats, when was the last time that Sony Music or Sony Classical released a commercial MD. The last one I bought must have been back in 1997...ans MDs were still around LONNNG after that (I still own two portables and a stand-alone....I loved me my MD players  ) More a curiosity question than wholly relevent....

In that high unlikely event that Blu-ray completely loses, PS3 owners will still grow.  They are already making BDs for games.  Encoding movies would be something that would continue to happen...just with a lower bandwidth limit.  All they would have to do it throw an lossless audio track with the video on a BD and be done.
