Specialist ranks immediately below corporal, an enlisted rank. So, no, it isn't just the officers. So, his last name is "sir"? This "sir" family seems to be very successful in the military. |

And this one example is proof that his rank is part of his name? | | | Hal |

And this one example is proof that his rank is part of his name? Irrelevant, hal. The question is is it part of the credit, credits is what we deal with not names. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

Skip I'm well aware of that, but it is irrelevant to the disccussion that Unicus and I are having! | | | Hal |

That is proof that he, at least, believes it is part of his name. I have many other examples...just none I can show you as they are all from personal experience. This was simply meant to show that my experience wasn't unique. Outside confirmation to support my original claim. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. Since that issue was settled, he and I have moved on to a different conversation. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. I have many other examples...just none I can show you as they are all from personal experience. This was simply meant to show that my experience wasn't unique. Outside confirmation to support my original claim. Clearly this is a "personal" thing. I was in the military and never considered my rank as part of my name. Furthermore, I never used my rank or was addressed by my rank outside of a military environment. "My" personal experience is that this is by far more common for the millions of current military personnel as well as vets, than to believe that rank is part of your name....especially for the rest of your life. Last word on this is.......there is no right or wrong answer. | | | Hal |

| Posted: | | | | I can believe you did not consider it part of your name. I can not, however, believe that you know what is common for the "millions of current military personnel as well as vets." Even I did not make that claim as I have yet to meet all those people. The claim I can make is that in my 25+ years of dealing with the military, whenever I met a person or asked what their names were, rank was included as part of the name...just as it was in the clip I posted. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | Actually, the most common way to refer to yourself or to address others in the military is by rank and last name. No first name.
So maybe we should just substitute rank for first name as their actual name! | | | Hal |
