This isn't a pat Skip on the back post, he can be abrasive at times and while I do believe he is generally trying to be helpful, sometimes his method of delivery can be a little harsh and I can see how some people would take offense to it, but honestly, for those that are familiar with him, I would think you would know his behavior well enough to realize he (at least in my opinion) really means well. Sure newbies don't know this and may take offense, and I think in some of his responses to said newbies it would maybe be beneficial for him to 'tone it down' some.
based on Skips comments about some of his posts that have received red arrows, and I can only take his word on which have, and I'm sure there are plenty more that he hasn't even called to public attention, I would say that I think some people are just offended by anything Skip says. Was his first post in this thread offensive? I don't see it, in fact i saw it as one of Skip's attempts to be diplomatic about bringing something he views as a concern into the forums. If that was posted by anyone else it probably would have gotten more greens than reds (if any).
I've posted things that I was surprised no one took offense to and gave me a red for, and have actually gotten greens for some of these posts. I'm pretty much convinced that if it was Skip's name attached to the post however that it would have gotten at least one red. Now while Skip may (and probably does) get some greens its probably not as much as it 'should' be considering the amount of help/knowledge he does give out and share with this community.
In fact, I considered giving a red to this comment: Quoting marcelb7:
Quote: You know I wasn't going to answer you 88, but it really is worth it. Let's just say you are right on most counts. because I read it as an insult to Skip, maybe its just an attempt to be funny, taking a quote from someone and changing two words to totally reverse the meaning and posting that in response to the same thing they were responded to, that's a bit of a (deliberate) jab in my book. If someone else here did similar it would have drawn slightly different response.
Now, I am in no way defending Skip (he doesn't need me to and I'm pretty sure can take care of himself). I disagree with some of his opinions, I also don't always agree with the method he uses to get some of his comments (even ones I do agree with) across and would probably go about it slightly differently myself. But it saddens me to say, that their really does (based on what has been said) seem to be at least one person who 'has an agenda' and is more interested in disagreeing with Skip, than stepping back, looking past the abrasiveness of his posts, and regarding his opinion on its own merit.
I mean after all, Skip is old, everyone knows old people are always cranky *

This concept really does not need any outside support! I thought that was a very good movie, I don't know why you'd call it dreaded but in all seriousness, I said nothing about a conspiracy (it would only be a conspiracy if there is a group of users plotting behind the scenes to negative vote a given user whenever (remotely) possible), My point was that there seems to be, at least by some, a different standard being applied to Skip's posts as apposed to the general populous.. -Agrare |

-Agrare Or perhaps being a past target lowers one's tolerance level. Everyone has a different level of tolerance to abuse. Why in the world do some women stay in battered homes (and no I am not trying to say that anyone is a batterer or equivalent to a baterer!)? Who knows. BTW, the "conspiracy theory" has been sugested more than once in the past year (yes a very good movie). | | | Hal | | | Last edited: by hal9g |

Skip I'm not so sure about that skip. Anyway, I don't want to contribute anymore to the fracus. To my surprise I'll post something in skip's defense here. Recently I updated the profile for Robocop because the capitalization of the title was wrong and explained the update this way, "Corrected capitalization of Robocop. Robocop not RoboCop as per the overview on the DVD." For this update skip voted YES but had this to say in the comments. Quoting skipnet50: Quote: Based on front cover this is correct, BUT the Overview does not ever determine the name of a film per the Rules The rules only say, "Use the title from the front cover." But in this case the title on the front cover is ROBOCOP, all upper case and all one font size. The only way to verify the spelling as Robocop and not RoboCop, robocop or even rObOcOp was from the production company approved overview on the back cover. So while technically the old RoboCop was correct in that it matched the front cover the only way to verify case was from the back. So here skip actually voted for correct info in spite of the black mark on this titles permanent record. |

Well, actually..... The Overview would not have been approved by the production company of the movie, but by the distribution company for the DVD. I would have to agree with Skip, that the Overview is not a valid source for anything to do with the title including capitalization. | | | Hal |

I had to check your change against my title and the front Cover supported your change. That was all that needed to be said. The Rules do not allow for anything else, thus if the cover had said RoboCop,, what the Overview had to say would have been moot and I would have voted No to your change.. A user right now is trying to change a title based on the Distributor Website, that is in error. The ONLY reason i left you the comment wsa to highlight for your reference that the Overview had no relevance to that particular field. As relates to some other comments, I am direct, to the point and absolutely no-nonsense, that rubs some people the wrong way and from my point of view, while I understand it, I also have to say that they need to learn to be tolerant of other people. I will not behave or communicate in any way other than suits ME. I don't judge others in this forum, and i find such behavior offenesive. Depending on the tone the user seems to be taking, I may be amused at my typos and I may not. I am all too aware that my brain generally is several words ahead of my hands which wreaks all kinds of havoc, it is one my personal "weaknesses" , which I am generally amused by. But some users like to pick at it in a nasty and sarcastic way, and to those users, I will only say God help you if I EVER see you adopt such a tone towards some of our users who are struggling with English, I will show no mercy. Peace people. Differences is what makes the world g around and make iy interesting as well, I suggest that some you need to do some very serious self-reflection regarding tolerance of others. | Posted: | | | | Yup, a red arrow... Too bad that quoting someone is somehow unfair to 'em... It wasn't a slam; it was observation. I'm a believer in "a foolish consistancy is the hobgoblin of little minds". Skip, I love Whitman's "Do I contradict myself? Very well then I contradict myself, (I am large, I contain multitudes.)" Relax, and be yourself... it's okay. Yer just funny on occasion. | | | If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

| Posted: | | | | Skriibner: I will absolutely vote on anything you put up. and if would bother to look ariond that is was Gerri HERSELF hersel who made the comment. Your take it way to personally, but your scans for Ghoist Rider were nearly identical to what is already there, note the Rules say significant improvement and if I could not see any marked improvement, it does not exist. You are coming off like a whiner. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

| Posted: | | | | Quoting skribner: Quote: You know, I was just looking at my cover scan contributions, and there was one that had two dissenters. Needless to say, one of them was from our hero.
Improvement, IF any, is insignificant, they look near identical, Gerriu please note user did not describe improvements IF there are any
So now, apparently, Ken and Gerri need to be told what to look for because they might have forgot or might not be doing so with our hero's opinions in mind.
I will say this: A lot of what is in a cover scan is subjective. I offer what I have and if they are appreciated then so be it. If not, then I'll withdraw and no harm, no foul. I have been told by our hero that he is not being crass or personal, just the (almighty) judge. Unless the scan is empirically of a lower quality (smaller, grainy, or a victim of severe compression sickness), then vote your opinion and be done with it. I do not feel a need to justify my cover art submissions because anyone with two eyes can see for themselves and opine as to their druthers.
For my end, I do not think that our hero has any special ownership of this program. This is my program as much as it is his and any of ours. My opinion should weigh as heavily as any of our learned forum contributors and it is that opinion - coupled with my devil may care differing and downright disagreeing with the rules - that may upset the status quo.
I have been in combat. I have saved lives and taken them. I am actively involved in the security of our country and have done so for the past 26 years. Trust me when I say that there are far more important issues out there than me not spelling out my deemed improvements in cover scans for the blind out there who will not open their eyes and see.
I am disgusted by little men who hide out in niches and pretend to be in authority in their tiny insular worlds. If our hero were to disappear today, the program, and these forums, would continue on just fine. In the Army, this is what we call an "indicator." When an operation or event would not be the least bit impacted if you were to disappear, this is an indicator that your perceived importance may be overstated.
For me, I know that my disappearance will not cause the slightest hiccup in the DVD Profiler program or world. I will still contribute my cover scans and the occasional profile update because I enjoy sharing with other people and I appreciate the time that other people spend to keep my database up todate.
A special note to our hero: You are NOT welcome to judge, opine or even vote on my contributions. Keep your venom and crotchety attitude far away from me. When you see my name on a database contribution, don't even look at it. Just find someone else to play with with. I am not interested. I want to enjoy this program again. Let me find the peace I am looking for. Seriously?! Who are you to dictate who gets to vote and have an opinion on your "contributions"?! Your post is extremely offensive! Even though it is not directed at me personally, I have no problem understanding who your imflammatory remarks are intended to hit. You say you've been in combat? What on earth does that have to do with anything?! "I've saved lives and taken them"?!?! Get a grip mate - we're not in Iraq - we're in DVD Profiler!! I've also taken lives - but that does NOT make me judge and jury on Godalmighty and everyone!! | | | Berak
