Quote: The problem with this is that it is possible to cut / paste phrases without understanding them. So for instance they could take cast from IMDB and then paste in the phrase "Cast and Crew taken from DVD" since they have been told that is what should be included. And would not realise they were doing anything wrong.
Its more important that they document what they have done (translated into English) than they include some stock phrases written for them. My suggestion wasn't to say "Here's some stock phrases, please use them randomly to get approvals", but to have something like
Astcay akentay omfray vdday : Cast taken from DVD
The user would know what they are copying because there would be a version in their mother tongue as a reference. I was by no means suggesting "Select items from this list and your contribution will be approved.", but rather a list of standard phrases that most people are likely to use anyway. Would you also include "... : cast taken from IMDB"? so that they have a choice and can clearly express what they have done so we can consider this - and then reject the change? | | | Paul |

I don't know what options would/should be included, and since I speak no language other than English well enough to contribute to such an endeavour, my input is purely academic. However, I do think it could be argued that there is merit in including some red herrings. I would like to see users from non-English speaking localities doing contributions again though. They're bound to do a far more thorough and accurate job of it than I could ever hope to achieve, so I'd certainly benefit from their efforts where I use the profile in question (directly or indirectly). I see this simply as a tool to allow them to do that. | | | Adelaide Movie Buffs (info on special screenings, contests, bargains, etc. relevant to Adelaideans... and contests/bargains for other Aussies too!) |

Perhaps we would be better served if there was a forum or thread dedicated to helping nonenglish speakers make contributions/notes that are easier for Gerri to understand. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand. The Centauri learned this lesson once. We will teach it to them again. Though it take a thousand years, we will be free. - Citizen G'Kar | | | Last edited: by TheMadMartian |
