No. I was responding to CharlieM who considers I'm selfish not to contribute to the online database, though I wrote (page 1 of this thread) that I do not use it, and not interested by the data on it. Just a question of logic. In fact, I also do not consider as selfish people who use widely my site without contributing to it. | | | Images from movies | | | Last edited: by surfeur51 |

Which is why I was happy to see Ken open a topic to listen to our wishes and suggestions in that regarding. Since then, no news. Just a question of logic. In fact, I also do not consider as selfish people who use widely my site without contributing to it. Let's see if I get the comparison right... You have profiled DVD's(BD's) that now have correct information in them, including titles, genres, aspect ratios audio video subtitles (maybe accurate scans of covers) etc, etc (I'll stay away from cast, crew, and overview), and refuse to contribute any of it, because you do not like 1 or 2 aspects of the rules. Me, hasn't done any screen captures, except for low quality images to ask or answer questions within the forums, and therefor have no information to contribute to your image site. While I commend you on the job you have done on your site, I do not think it is a valid comparison. I try not to be insulting, but the repeated harping about how bad the online DB is, and your stated withholding of completed info from the DB, because of your perceived inaccuracies of the online, is getting old. We know that you do not like the rule concerning names (or overviews, which is a personal thing), but the way that you appear to me, is that of a selfish and hurt child (I want it my way, else I'm not helping at all) If you are not going to contribute or use the online DB, then so be it, but don't try to hold it over our head by repeating it. | Posted: | | | | Quoting CharlieM: Quote: I try not to be insulting... You are insulting, as you were often in the past. Each time I give my opinion, I get acid comments from you against me, when it is not against French people in general. Quoting CharlieM:Quote: And there is the rub. The French people. You now consider I'm selfish not contributing my profiles, which, by the way, are totally against the rules (*). I hoped it was just a reaction to a post without much reflexion. After your long explanation, I see you really mean it. I feel sorry for you if that is your usual behaviour. (*) - My overviews are rewritten each time we have advertising or spoilers, without bold and italics as requested by rules. - I scan covers to match my edition, not the first edition x years ago. - when reflective slip cover, I use inner cover instead of an horrible scan result. - I never use group dividers as requested by rules - I use movie title, not DVD title, especially for things like T4xi - I use custom genres - I use Imdb names to allow linking - I use own common names for studios to allow linking - in the rating details field, I have French box-office ... and probably other "forbidden" things. To contribute now my profiles, I should rebuilt them totally. | | | Images from movies | | | Last edited: by surfeur51 |

Just love how you take a quote from CharlieM from a year ago, completely out of context to try to make him look like a xenophobe . Here is the full context of this post: Quoting surfeur51: Quote: Quote:
Quoting TheMadMartian: Quote: ...when I see Francois, I don't think, in my mind, that it is pronounced Frankois.
You don't, because it is not your culture. That is why most American people do not find Ken's clarification as a real problem. But 100% of French people (except babies and senile people) pronounce co>ko, ca>ka, cu>ku but ce>se and ci>si. Quoting CharlieM: Quote:

If your local database and the online database are so out-of-sync (and apparently destined to stay that way) why do you even give it another thought? It sounds like DVDP is meeting your needs just fine. --------------- |

But I regret that the quality of the online database is very poor, just because it is not allowed to put some common sense in rules when we are in front of odd cases. The old Intervocative guidelines were nearly perfect, and at that time, I contributed many profiles. | | | Images from movies |

You also quoted only a part of the thread, and following pages are also interesting, specially about other languages than French. And even with what you quoted, I still read that "the rub is the French people". The old Intervocative guidelines were nearly perfect, and at that time, I contributed many profiles. It sounds to me like your real problem is that you cannot contribute any more because the online database deviates too much from what you've decided to populate your local database with, e.g. Quoting surfeur51: Quote: - My overviews are rewritten each time we have advertising or spoilers, without bold and italics as requested by rules. - I scan covers to match my edition, not the first edition x years ago. - when reflective slip cover, I use inner cover instead of an horrible scan result. - I never use group dividers as requested by rules - I use movie title, not DVD title, especially for things like T4xi - I use custom genres - I use Imdb names to allow linking - I use own common names for studios to allow linking - in the rating details field, I have French box-office
