| Posted: | | | | Currently 36 threads on the first five pages (not including sticky topics) in the contribution forums that could be taking place in this new forum. That's quite a bit. If there were a separate forum to deal with these issues, instead of having to go to the very bottom of the fifth page to find the topic on Karen Baker Landers (as that's where it's at now), it'd be right in the middle of the second page. A lot easier to find (plus, you know, being in a forum dedicated for that kind of stuff... ). Just saying. | | | The night is calling. And it whispers to me soflty come and play. |

Well I can just take comfort in that you are in the low minority on this .
Personally, I take comfort in the fact Ken doesn't seem ready to follow the majority. I feared he would jump on this very bad idea, that validates the common name system (that pleases so many (?) contributors), instead of working on a new system that has been very often requested in the feature request forum, without any sign from him. The fact he didn't move here is perhaps (at least I hope so), the sign he works on a new system that the "minority" hopes so much. | | | Images from movies | | | Last edited: by surfeur51 |

I like! +1 but if there would be a change in the system* as guessed from surfeur, it would get a +1000 or more. *DVD Profiler 4.0?! |

The fact he didn't move here is perhaps (at least I hope so), the sign he works on a new system that the "minority" hopes so much. As slow as he moves on things at times I personally not ready to jump to such conclusions. Actually far from it. But I do believe everyone here would prefer it. But I am very FAR from getting my hopes up on it. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | When I said... Quote: But I do believe everyone here would prefer it. Notice I said believe... not know. And that is not about this (the new forum)... that is me saying I believe (note not a definite statement but a belief) everyone here (as in the forum members) would prefer Ken to be working on a better linking system. But I am far from getting my hopes up on that... especially over just not hearing from Ken on this thread thing lately. As that is just Ken. We hear what he wants when he wants us to and he works on whatever he prefers as he prefers to. You definitely can't read anything into it. I hope that clears up what I was saying. | | | Pete |

I don't know which one I'd be more happy with, though... In fact, I have no illusion about the fact that we'll not see a new system for names before several monthes, at least. What I meant is that I hope Ken made his mind about the necessity to change, one day in the future, this "common name" nonsense. And in that case, why to open a new forum for something that will disappear in the future ?? If I gave a negative opinion about this new forum is that its existence will do nothing except make us wait even more for a new system. I hardly understand people that say "the linking system doesn't work, but I want this new forum". Both are conflicting. | | | Images from movies |

| Posted: | | | | I agree with you on some of it. But some of us can only go by Ken's past. And that has proven to expect nothing... and be (sometimes) pleasantly surprised if/when it does come. The way I see it is... up to this point Ken has been against changing the linking system... has said nothing to even give us the idea that his opinion changed on this. His silence on this more then likely means nothing. I read more into his last comment in this thread... Quoting Ken Cole:Quote: Thoughts on a name and description? Telling me we are most likely stuck with the linking system that we have now. And with that I have to hope for the addition of the new forum over nothing at all. Even though I would prefer a new... better linking system over what we have plus a new forum. | | | Pete | | | Last edited: by Addicted2DVD |

If there will be a change in the linking system, guess who has to do the work to build all the linking and so on? We users. So such threads will help us to do this work. For example: Common name threads include the variants of a name and the movies with the person in database. Sometimes it includes different persons with same names. -> All helps at doing the work after a change. But this is just my personnel opinion. |

| Posted: | | | | I don't get the controversy here. The threads already exist in the contribution forum and occupy a huge amount of the space there. All anyone is asking for is a specific forum to put these threads and leave the contribution forum for everything else. This is not a change to the linking system, just a change to where the threads are located. |

| Posted: | | | | There no controversy here. It's just Surfeur who post is usual "I don't like the name linking system" in the wrong forum area as usual. I really don't understand why Ken didn't create it yet. since 99.999% (it's just an estimate, I haven't PM all the DVDP users to know ) agree on this... |

And so we're back at page #2... Excellent quote To be more precise, you could have bolded this sentence : "But I fear Ken will accept that idea which is easier for him than to work on better linking system". It is funny (sad ?) to see that some of us do not understand that creating a special forum for a system is equivalent to take the decision to keep that system. The day Ken opens this new forum will mean that we are stuck to what we have. Well if 99,999% of users want this, why not... after all... But why do some users, very happy with what we have, give that subject for their threads : "The continued nightmare we call parsing : XX" | | | Images from movies |
