You'll have found that I usually never play that card, and I shouldn't have now. I'm just getting sick and tired of being told nonsense by people who aren't even doing the work. Let's just say you tend to bring out the worst in people. How's that? Quote: Exactly how many of those profiles were 'real' contributions and how many were part of the inital batch upload? If I remember correctly: very few. I think less than a hundred - mainly because contributions during the first few Invelos days weren't counted. Anyway - it doesn't matter. All this does is show that I should have left this thread much earlier. I still hope Ken will weigh in with his opinion on this - as always, it's the only way things will improve. At the moment, I'm just very happy that I've finally been proven right on the suffixed names issue - at least that's one big problem out of the way. | | | Last edited: by T!M |

I'll supply a more practical answer, too, if you're interested: didn't you just see Ken eliminate this concern of yours with regards to suffixes? So it's not exactly impossible to solve, is it?
This situation is not comparable to the suffixes one. The numerous varieties of suffix forms were preventing those profiles from being linked properly. That is not the case with "Devito vs DeVito". | | | Hal | | | Last edited: by hal9g |

Quote: And, as I have stated before, if you continue to put "Danny Devito" in the "Credited As" field, you run the risk of the CLT eventually showing more instance s of "Devito" than "DeVito" and you will then have to change ALL of the profiles to a new "Common Name".
Like I said, a complete waste of time! Hal:
So what, we are after MOST COMMONLY credited name as ken has stated numerous times. What you or someone else thinks is his "real" name is something for your local not the Online.
Skip Not any more we're not. At least not for names with Jr. or Sr. suffixes! And besides, Devito (DeVito) is the most common name. The program doesn't care whether it's capitalized or not. | | | Hal |

Agreed! "List names exactly as they are in the credits" (bold from the rules, not added by me) doesn't leave room for personal interpretation of such credits. "DeVITO" becomes "DeVito", DEVITO becomes "Devito" Quoting hal9g: Quote: And you see no inconsistency in this statement of yours.
First you quote the Rules that say ""List names exactly as they are in the credits" and then you follow it with two examples where we DO NOT enter "names exactly as they are in the credits".
You want to pick and choose which letters to convert and which ones not to!
On what do you base your decision not to make the "V" lower case in the "DeVITO" example? How is it any different than the "I" or the "T"? So, Tim, why is it that you have not responded to the above? | | | Hal |

We'll do this again next month, okay? This is all so perfectly simple: enter what you see and nothing else. Things only go wrong when people start applying what they feel they know is "correct". It's all downhill from there, as we've seen time and time again. That's why I restrict myself to what I see on the screen - common names excluded, of course. |

I'm just getting sick and tired of being told nonsense by people who aren't even doing the work. Let's just say you tend to bring out the worst in people. How's that? I never said you had played it. I simply said I was waiting for you to do so as you seem to think that number means something. As far as nonsense goes, as I said before, I provided actual capitalization rules...which the rules tell us to use...all you provided was "because I said so." Talk about nonsense. And, since you brought it up again, please show me where the rules give the minimum number of contributions required before an opinion becomes valid? I couldn't find it. Oh, wait, that must be another one of your "because I said so" rules. Oh, and one more thing, while it may not seem like much to you, a contribution every 3 days is doing the work. Quote:

All this does is show that I should have left this thread much earlier. Sorry, but I am not buying it. There is no way that you have contributed 26 individual profiles every day...unless, of course, you are contributing miniscule amounts of data each time. But you go ahead and believe that you have done all that work...it seems that it is important for you to do so. You mean you enter credits, that are in ALL CAPS, into the profile in ALL CAPS? Yea, I didn't think so. The fact is, you do NOT enter what you see. You enter them in mixed case based on your personal preference. I have given you standard capitalization rules, which the rules tell us to use, yet you continue to ignore them and offer no counter argument. As I said, that speaks volumes. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
