I made a special rule for my list only to include movies I've seen in their original language from a DVD I own. That ruled out a lot of stuff that would be on it otherwise. My collection is also severely lacking in the 60s/70s department, especially for European productions. As you can see some childhood memories from the late 80s rank higher than they probably should :D
In no order, sorry, it's ridiculous to compare Blade Runner and Bringing Up Baby...
[...]
Hah, I'm surprised by my own list. I'd never have expected that many 80s/2000s movies and that few 90s (1) and 40s movies. I'm also wondering why no silent made the list. I gotta watch more of those I own I just realized I have to rank the list to have it taken into the poll. So, I'll try: 01. Elizabethtown, 2005 02. The Adventures of Robin Hood, 1938 03. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, 1989 04. Children of Men, 2006 05. Back to the Future, 1985 06. Ferris Bueller's Day Off, 1986 07. North by Northwest, 1959 08. The Wizard of Oz, 1939 09. C'era una volta il West / Once Upon A Time in the West, 1968 10. Beverly Hills Cop, 1984 11. Bringing Up Baby, 1938 12. The Prestige, 2006 13. Blade Runner, 1982 14. Léon, 1994 15. Dip huet seung hung / The Killer, 1989 16. The Ninth Gate, 1999 17. The Philadelphia Story, 1940 18. Top Gun, 1986 19. Singin' in the Rain, 1951 20. Wo hu cang long / Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, 2000 21. Cidade de Deus, 2002 22. 3:10 to Yuma, 2007 23. The Notebook, 2004 24. Sin City, 2005 25. Who Framed Roger Robbit, 1988 Jeez, ask me any other day and the list could be the other way around :/ | | | - Jan |

| Posted: | | | | My Ranked List (My Top Ten is pretty solid; after that the differences are not all that huge, but since you need a ranked list, here it is): 1) Manhattan 2) 2001 A Space Odyssey 3) Wizard of Oz 4) The Abominable Dr. Phibes 5) The Lord of the Rings (I consider them all one big movie, but if you need them separated out then my fave of the 3 is Fellowship of the Ring) 6) Batman (Michael Keaton version) 7) A Clockwork Orange 8) Wizards 9) Cabaret 10) The Harvey Girls 11) Allegro Non Troppo 12) Edward Scissorhands 13) North by Northwest 14) White Heat 15) Seven Samurai 16) Eraserhead 17) The Adventures of Prince Achmed 18) Fantasia 19) Monty Python and the Holy Grail 20) The Good Fairy (1935) 21) Repo Man 22) Way Out West (Laurel & Hardy) 23) The Girl Who Knew Too Much 24) Intolerance 25) Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow A lot of things here that I'll have the only vote for, but so it goes. The list said "favorite" so I went with that, and quality of the movie be damned. These are all movies that I can, and have, sat through over and over and over again. Love 'em all. And by my count, only five made after 1980, though I shirked on the non-US films (only Seven Samurai, Prince Achmed and Girl Who Knew Too Much, unless you count 2001 as British). | | | "This movie has warped my fragile little mind." | | | Last edited: by gardibolt |

11) Allegro Non Troppo
Is it actually that good? Been interested in a purchase for a while... Quote:
17) The Adventures of Prince Achmed
wow, surprised to see this on a list. you're talking about the Lotte Reiniger animation, right? Quote:
25) Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow
Mh, loved it the first time I watched it, almost hated it the second time and found it good but not awesome the third time. Seems to depend a lot on my mood :D Quote:

| Posted: | | | | Figure I may as well throw in my lot as well, although it seems I have a substantial bias in my choices. As with many others, I think that this could change significantly on another day.
1. Urusei Yatsure Movie 5: Final Chapter 2. Urusei Yatsura Movie 2: Beautiful Dreamer 3. 12 Angry Men 4. Porco Rosso 5. Little Shop of Horrors [1986] 6. Clue 7. Seven Samurai 8. Sanjiro 9. Yojimbo 10. Night of the Living Dead [1968] 11. Dawn of the Dead [1978] 12. And then there were none 13. Laputa, Castle in the Sky 14. Akira 15. My Neighbour Totoro 16. The Ring 17. The Thing [1982] 18. Milleniun Actress 19. Iron Monkey [1993] 20. Dark Crystal 21. Aliens 22. Asoka 23. Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back 24. Dial M for Murder 25. Star Wars: Return of the Jedi

| Posted: | | | | Allegro non Troppo is a little uneven---the live action bits are awful, but most of the animation is excellent. The Dvorak is great, and the Sibelius Valse Triste is just downright beautiful. The Bolero is a pretty entertaining riff on Fantasia. I like it a lot, and if you can get through the live action stuff it's quite rewarding. Yes, the Lotte Reininger animation of Prince Achmed. It's a stunning piece of work, and you have to respect the incredible dedication and artistry behind it. Yeah, my first viewing of Sky Captain knocked my socks off and then my shoes and then mussed up my hair. I guess you can only have that experience once, but I can still watch it over and over. Oh yeah, Holy Grail is British, isn't it? Just a wee bit..... | | | "This movie has warped my fragile little mind." |

I tried a sneak peek the other day and it's a big headache just prepping the data (though hopefully you have an easier way) and then there's all the title variations (not to mention trilogies being listed as both individual parts AND as trilogies). | | | Adelaide Movie Buffs (info on special screenings, contests, bargains, etc. relevant to Adelaideans... and contests/bargains for other Aussies too!) |

| Posted: | | | | Don't worry about impatient people. The list will be up when it's up. You get things sorted out at your end, and if people are really that keen to see the results, they have all the information they need to make the list themselves (and then they can see how much work you've got yourself in for). | | | Adelaide Movie Buffs (info on special screenings, contests, bargains, etc. relevant to Adelaideans... and contests/bargains for other Aussies too!) |
