| Posted: | | | | I thought the debate in this topic was thoughtful and interesting on both sides...all 6 pages of it! As far as the correct answer...I have no idea! I don't think that anyone deserved a red arrow and hope that it will be reversed. |

It is nice to read something where two sides can discuss their views without it turning into a mudslinging event. Almost never happens around here. Kudos to everyone involved. As for my vote, Whatever James says is OK with me on this one. |

Kudos to everyone involved. I agree. These are the threads I like to participate in. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. You are welcome to that feeling, but that is how I treat crew credits. It is how I have always treated crew credits. It is how I will continue to treat crew credits until Ken finally takes the time to fix them. Which is testament to the fact that the rules need to be clarified to encompass issues such as musicals (and the numerous other issues that get raised). One last thing on Sweeney Todd.... Sondheim is something of a rarity in musical theatre because he tends to write the music AND lyrics for his shows. Whereas a lot of other musicals are collaborations (I'm sure there are exceptions). This is why he gets the Music by/Lyrics by credit. Your comment about songwriters should be applied to musicals too IMO. Especially where a musical is entirely sung. By your reasoning the film version of Jesus Christ Superstar would get: Composer: Andrew Lloyd Webber Songwriter: Tim Rice Because onscreen it says Music by and Lyrics by. But - because no new material was written for the film version that would be wrong. When it comes to musicals you have to know if new material was written; whether a song or the score: otherwise you cannot profile it correctly. This is no different that the countless 'credited as' entries, or discussions on 'Theme by' or 'Supervising Producer'. One thing I think everyone can probably agree on is that it would be very, very silly to omit the music section for musicals based solely on the lack of original material. |

Here, here! OTOH A lot of what we do in Profiler seems silly to someone or another. | | | Another Ken (not Ken Cole) Badges? We ain't got no badges. We don't need no badges.
