Now all that's left is to decide which date is official.

And that's an easy answer, since we're always supposed to use the earliest data for releases available. Sure, they were only available in the 7 test markets, but it was the first release in R1 USA.

Frankly, I'm fine with that answer.  I'm just happy to ferret out why there was such a big date discrepancy.  It just struck me as odd that we could be that far off.  However, if a bunch of folks in the midwest got their copy on release day in August, it makes more sense how this happened.

ok, it me, the origin of all this uproar again. Sorry for this battle. But as far as the original titles that came out back in march 1997, ie. Twister, Species and Road Warrior, my source listed was from WidescreenReview Magazine from the September 1997 date. Ok, now lets for a moment travel back in time, the most incredible improvement in home theater has just been released to well, i believe it was only like 4 cities across the nation that were even aloud to market dvd for a trial period cause many thought this dvd fade to be a flop like beta tapes. But just for an instant a company that has been around promoting laser discs (way too expensive) and the crappy vhs tapes finally has something exciting and new to finally provide new information to their subscribing fans. So I believe what the "NO" voters are saying, is that Widescreenreview which finally after years of ho hum reviews finally had some exciting news about the new titles released to the small public on dvd (the biggest thing in years) rushes to market to print the release dates on these current pioneer dvd titles (and they give all wrong information). I mean really, when dvd hit the market in march 1997, what were there like 25 titles to choose from and all released on the same day at that March 25 1997, do you really think a home theater magazine would give out the wrong information in their magazine. I understand that Widescreenreview information is not perfect probably in every review that they have ever done, but i think when you are talking about the gold mark of dvd and the first titles, their information was and still is correct. The original magazine information does not change, the September issue information did not change, however, various websites have various information and they all can differ. And this that:

To the wolfman who continuously votes "NO", i say "You know that I am right, turn away from the moonlight and become human again".

If anyone else can help me out by supplying any more supportive documentation for my cause, and I can see that many have just reading this thread, I would think that the "NO" voters would pull back there vote..

Does one have to prove that an orange is orange..... ???

It's possible that some voters have not read this thread.

Besides, there's still a good chance your contribution will get approved despite some no votes as long as there are enough yes votes. We'll just have to wait and see.

ok here is the link to the widescreenreview for non members, but if you type in the name of the dvd title you are looking for it will give a list and the release date is given. Twister shows 3/97 as does Species and Road Warrior.

http://widescreenreview.com

although the website shows only the month and year, I guess you are gonna have to trust me that March 25, 1997 is what i am reading out of my magazine issue 25 Sept 1997.

and also, in this thread, 2 others have provided other links for proof, is the werewolf seeking blood tonight... hee hee just kidding....

When I bought my first DVD player in October 1997 I did not know any of my friends, neighbors coworkers who had a DVD player until well into 1998.
Saying that ..  Let's keep in mind as well, that in March 1997 DVD's were very, very  rare, so rare that a lot of big house retailers didn't even handle them, until the summer of 1997 . And that is where the problems lies..

Kinda like when  a Hollywood film gets released in three US cities  on Xmas day,, the film gains momentum thru January, finally gets noticed and so in our minds the films' release date year seems to be in that Year.
In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. Now the World is weird and People take Prozac to make it Normal.

The only thing I knew for sure was that what was there was not right... not that you were right about the date. we have to give sources that the info we are providing is exactly right... not just prove that the info there is wrong.

Just telling us that you got it from an old magazine... no matter the magazine... is like not giving a source at all because I (or the screeners) can't go to that source to check it for myself. In other words you are saying just trust me. And as I said... that is not sourcing your info.

Now that you FINALLY gave a link to an actual site I can go look for myself. Even though the link should be in your contribution notes... for all voters and the screeners to be able to check them... not in a forum thread they may or may not know about. So if you haven't done so yet... I would recommend you to update your notes with the link you provided.

I have to agree with, pete.Lex you were out of line on this. In fact both here and privately I told you that a press release would be THE answer, I did not suggest another third party source and as much respect as I have for Widescreen Review they are a third party source and not a distributor's press release.

ok, i have actually spent most of my morning running around getting my issues from ws review photocopied, scanned and then emailed to myself. I have a 2 page article about the release dates on the very first dvd's to hit the market something any dvd enthusist would like to hold onto. Also I have the first WS Review DVDisography which lists the month of release date for 1997 updated 4/22/1997. (the article will tell the actual day). This should prove my point without a shadow of anyones minds. the problem i now have is: How in bloody H*LL do i get a pictuer file in here...??
can someone either give me their email address that knows how to add picture (document) files to this forum or is there anyother way.

Personally, I think this is above and beyond the call.  When I was doing a quick search I found any number of archived webpages that referred to the limited March '97 rollout of the DVD titles in question.  This is starting to take on all the aspects of some sort of freshman hazing ceremony.

The the dates listed in the pages are non-specific. I want to see press releases. Are we nest going to try to use that data for SRP changes as well, since quite a few of them highlight my descriptions of SRP for a long time.

Ummm....agree or don't agree with what?  I've already satisfied myself that the March date changes that affect any profiles I own are indeed correct.  I've also voted accordingly.
