As Pete said, you have no way of knowing, that is a statement which you factually cannot support.

| Posted: | | | | You said in one post that "I'd guess 95%+ of the user community will fix this in their local database."
That I pretty much agree with... I think that is a fairly good guess.
But then you replied to another post of Kathy's saying that no one would use them... you did not say the majority or people mentioned earlier or any other notation to what was said earlier... yoiu just said no one... and that is a false statement no matter the statement before it that I agree about. | | | Pete |

Those who have the top cover would list one title and those with the bottom have another title. The vagaries of using the cover instead of the film which would have the same title on it.<shrugs>
Skip I think that was his point. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. As usual, the point is totally missed! No Hal, I did not miss your point. But you wer making an authoritative statement which you cannot factually support and you followed with an insulting comment directed at Pete. I did not miss your point at all. Stating an opinion is one thing but making a statement that you can't back up factually is totally different. @ Unicus You might be right, amigo. But , it is what it is, I think you know what I think by now...I hope. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

It makes sense because, as I have been told quite a few times, this is DVD Profiler, not Movie Profiler. Quite a few people, if I remember correctly, wanted the title to represent what they saw on the shelf. This does that. No one will go into the store looking for "Star Wars IV: A New Hope". So it makes no sense! Oops, let me change that to "Almost no one will go into a store......" | | | Hal | | | Last edited: by hal9g |

So it makes no sense! Hal: I agree with you on this, but...I opposed the Rule change and so did you. We can't be making exceptions for the reasons I outlined, and i don't want to see us go back to the film credits now for the reasons I noted. So it is what it is, I didn't want it, I tried to resist it, but here we are. It's bad enough that we already have the garbage language in their to exclude possessives, but that too is what it is and it adds a level of extra complxity to the process. The bottom line is the ONLINE is not the end answer, it is the starting point for all of us to construct our own customized database. If people would understand that and how to deal with that half of these nonsense arguments would end, including all of the redherrings thrown out about possessive. And your argument about looking for Star Wars IV is also a red herring, though I understand what you are trying to communicate. Use of the substring filter is the answer. Giess what you would get if ran a substring filter on Star Wars: A New Hope or Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

Your behavior towards me is completely unacceptable but that I have to deal with.
I will call you on it EVERY time you choose to direct your definitively anti-social behavior at someone else.
You have proven a distinct inability or desire to engage in a simple non-confrontational discussion exchanging ideas. And your behavior is falt out unacceptable.

| Posted: | | | | All I am saying is if you just leave them alone, where is the problem? Why are you insisting on changing them? And don't say because the Rules say so. That's a reason why they should be changed, but it is not a reason to actually change them! Perhaps that distinction is too subtle for you. | | | Hal |

| Posted: | | | | yes... I am fine... I can ignore most on how people talk to me... and personally didn't find anything Hal said towards me personally bothersome.
But I am a fairly literal person I will tend to reply to the actual words that people use when they post... as I don't even attempt to try to think they said this... but mean that. Just like I am with the rules we must follow for contribution purposes.
On this idea of it is not bothering anyone being wrong in the database... so lets all turn a blind eye towards it attitude. I can understand what you are talking about... I am even guilty of it myself at times... but the thing is I don't really believe it is the right attitude to have... and I do believe all profiles should be exactly as the rules say to do them for the online database... no matter if it makes sense to me or not. And if someone contributes it per the rules... I for one will not fight it in any manner. I will just vote yes... and depending how strongly I feel I will either lock the field or not. And that will be the end of it. | | | Pete |

And that will be the end of it. Thanks, Pete. To you I offer my apology. You got caught in the crossfire of a rather heated discussion, and for that I am sorry. I hold no ill will toward you whatsoever. And, BTW, I voted yes to all of Skip's title changes. Not "no; not "neutral"; but "yes" because it is what the Rules tell us to do. Skip accuses me of disregarding the Rules in spite of those votes, which of course, is nonsense. The only reason I am involved in this discussion in the forum is because I believe that this Rule change was a huge mistake and these very visible titles are the casualties thereof. What we really need is a "DVD Title" field, a "Movie Title" field (on screen) and an "Original Title" field. I'm sure some would also like a "Other Title" field as well. I understand this is DVD Profiler, however, DVD is nothing more than a medium for storing a "movie" or a "TV series" or a "concert" or a "documentary" or a "whatever". It is the "whatevers" that I am interested in, not the medium that I happened to buy it on, so the actual on screen title is very important to me, not to mention the fact that every other reference source in the world will invariably use the on screen title. Sorry you were a casualty of my passion on this issue. | | | Hal | | | Last edited: by hal9g |
