The program sorts them by last name automatically in the cast/crew filter lists and in the name lists used in adding/editing profile cast & crew. I like it that way. That would be lost with a single name field. But of course you already know this. --------------- |

I was emphasizing that we don't get it right, in some cases and cannot expect a program to do so. Therefore, I would not be in favor of a 1 name field. But a 2 name field would work... |

--------------- Hmm...that's interesting. When you are adding a person to the cast or crew list, don't you simply add the name you see on the screen into the name field without identifying first middle or last name? As long as the name is found in the list (or not, if it doesn't yet exist), I see no usefulness whatsoever, in listing them alphabetically by last name. It makes no difference at all. On the cast/crew filter, it lists every match using full-string search of what you've typed so far, so once again, I see no loss of functionality there. Personal preference I can understand. But I would prefer to eliminate the parsing problems rather than be concerned about a personal preference that does not affect how the program actually works. | | | Hal |

Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on which side of the fence you are on, Ken has chosen to err on the side of 'personal preference' because of, as I understand it, the ability to export Profiler data and use it in other ways. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. Noted. Quoting TheMadMartian: Quote: Ken has chosen to err on the side of 'personal preference' because of, as I understand it, the ability to export Profiler data and use it in other ways. And a good decision it was, IMO. --------------- |

Not such a great trade, if you ask me.
I sure am glad that profiles can be locked locally! | | | Hal | | | Last edited: by hal9g |

| Posted: | | | | Ummm, are you referring to the XML export of data? There is nothing in the XML export of the profiler data which depends on (or is even aware of, really) the details of actor/crew names. They are reported, but the ordering is always in profile order...
If I'm thinking of the wrong export, my apologies... | | | -fred |

If I'm thinking of the wrong export, my apologies... My understanding is that once exported, it can be imported into other programs that can utilize the three name fields. I don't do this myself, so I am just going by what I have heard. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. --------------- If it fails to link 100% of profiles with the same actor, it is useless, IMHO. This isn't rocket science. I can only think of one program enhancement that I think is more important; the ability to profile multiple films on a single side of a disc. | | | Hal |
