| Posted: | | | | *If* cast are broken up by disc, it makes it easier to add people to top billing throughout a season.
Say Episode 5 someone became a regular and made the credits at the start of the show, if Disc 2 started with Episode 5+ you could move them to top billing as they would have top billing on all future epiisodes.
Where you aren't going to be able to do this is at the parent level profile as it would not be accurate for episode level casting. | | | Signature banned: Reason out of date... | | | Last edited: by NewEnglander |

| Posted: | | | | Erik, it could still happen "within a disc" then, so that that case needs to be covered...
I agree, if you'd have disc profiles then if the person is in the opening credits for all episodes of the disc, then they should be in the Main Cast. However, if you have Episode 5-8 on the disc and the change occurs from episode 6 to 7...? | | | Achim [諾亞信; Ya-Shin//Nuo], a German in Taiwan. Registered: May 29, 2000 (at InterVocative) |

| Posted: | | | | Yeah, I know it's not perfect. But, you at least will see that at some point in that series, s/he became a cast regular.
THe only fail safe way is with episode level profiling, however that would be implemented. (I know, that's another topic) | | | Signature banned: Reason out of date... |

| Posted: | | | | Quoting ya_shin: Quote: I think the vote is clear. What is not yet clear is, what is the Main Cast. For that I like chibul's and darkforce's assessment:
Quoting chibul:
Quote: To me, Option 2 = no good. If we go to Option 2, we should at least list the main cast at the top, and then also for each episode.
I don't even know what the issue is here. Opening credits (show intro) go at the top - everyone else in episode dividers. Seems really, REALLY simple.
Quoting darkforce:
Quote: My method is to watch the show (or credits) and keep track of all the actors per episode. The ones that are screen credited in all the episodes (by any means - main titles, etc) I put in the main cast. All others (even if they were credited in all but one epsiode) go under episode headings.
It is not important who is in every episode, but how can we define Main Cast. And I agree, the opening credits should be the indicator here. Leaving us with the question of those people who get promoted mid-season, where I'd agree with darkforce, that these people simply get top-billing for the episodes where they are in the opening credits.
If you all feel, that you already cleared this while talking about Main Cast, then just ignore this post... Gee, achim, since it was a poll I put up, has anyone said Hey, skip what do you mean by Main Cast? It's just a guess on my part, but I suspect I had something in mind on that. ROFL no nobody bothers to ask, they simply start discussing a bunch of stuff. I believe I have, however explained fairly thoroughly what i was enivisioning and even answered how I would see a mid-season addition to be handled. I think I even gave an example at one point. It just isn't all that hard. Unless you want to make it soi, and with this crew... Try asking you might be amazed. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

| Posted: | | | | So should we start a topic listing topics that we need Ken's input on? | | | "I am Andrew Ryan and I am here to ask you a question: Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his own brow?
No, says the man in Washington. It belongs to the poor. No, says the man in the Vatican. It belongs to God. No, says the man in Moscow. It belongs to everyone.

| Posted: | | | | So which is the consensus on this one then 1 or 2?
If it's 1, I've already started on some of my TV series episodes (not contributed, just editing) if 2, some more editing to do.

Barring a total turnaround, it looks to me like Option 1 wins hands down.

| Posted: | | | | Right then Option 1 wins hands down, unless overturned by Ken.
If everybody is working off the same template it should make populating the database a lot easier, as most TV series are going to have the same cast for the main listing, only variations would only show up whereby another actor does a voice over for the non-native production langauge.

P.S. happy editing all. |

| Posted: | | | | By editing now to Option 1, the main cast only will be outside of the episode, easy enough if it later transpires to Option 2 to edit them into Episodes, either way the profile will have to be edited so might as well start now, as the series I am doing at the moment only has episodes per DVD. So if Option 2 preferred only two edits per DVD required, instead of the whole DVD.

| Posted: | | | | Here are a couple of things to think about.
1) In 24, there are people credited in the first episode in the main cast part of the opening credits who die and are no longer credited later in the season. Using method #1, should their name will be included as the "main" cast because they are listed up front in the first x episodes, but they are not credited in all episodes? I don't have a specific example, but I distinctly remember this from doing cast/crew audits for Tom's collection. As a matter of fact, most of the cast is listed in the opening credits, the one episode I just popped in has only 2 people in the end credits.
2) There are other series have that are opposite: a main cast that is not credited at the beginning. Star Trek TOS has only Shatner and Nimoy in the opening credits, with DeForrest Kelley showing up later (maybe in Season 2, I don't remember). There are a few other "main characters" who appear in over 75% of the episodes: Takei, Doohan, Nichols, Koenig (seasons 2/3) and IIRC there are some episodes where these characters appear but may not be credited at all. Do they belong in the "main" cast? I would say they are, but someone else might say they are not.
For accuracy in either of the above 2 examples, they should be listed only for the episodes their credit actually appears, except of course unless added as (uncredited). If we are going to try to be consistent and take the opening credit to indicate "main" cast, then each episode will have to be compared to make sure that the name appears in every episode for the season before adding them up top.
I started out voting for #2, because that is the only way to be accurate, then after Pete posted his example of what he was proposing I changed to #1. Now after thinking about the 2 points above I think #2 is the way to go. An added benefit of #2 is the if Ken ever decides to add grandchild profiles or tabs, it might be possible to programmatically separate the episode information since it will all be together.
Just my 2 cents. | | | Kevin |

Unless someone has an idea. The Rules can't cover every eventuality that we run into. If I recall correctly 24 does not have "opening" credits per se. They have what I would call Front End Episode Cast data.
2) This would be handled as I described earlier De Kelley would be included in EVERY episode he appeared in for the balance of the season, he would not appear in above the divider Cast.

| Posted: | | | | How about instead of trying to treat it as 'main' cast vs 'other', and whether they're credited in the opening or ending (most of the stuff I enter has no opening cast credits anyway), just consider it as a grouping for redundant entries. For a given disc entry, if person A is credited in some manner for a particular role for every single episode on the disc(s), put them at the top to reduce redundancy. |
