What we need to do, is move to some form of open credit and use as.credited. stop this shoehorning of data that leaaves everything muddled and ill defined Trying to enter a crew member that does the job that is being track is not shoehorning. Unless they have 1 person doing the credit roles for every movie made you will not get a common crew title from one to the next. Let alone from country to country. It would probably be better to make a list of the crew roles that are not creditable (Gaffer, Rigger, electricians, carpenters, caterers, assistantant, etc....). And leave the rest open and the list could be added to as needed or a title could be removed. But that would need a group of people deciding at a regular basis not every 6 months for a decisicion. |

| Posted: | | | | Ateo Now you journey into an area.that I have discussed numerous times so I will only hit a couple of high points. First off relative to more frequent rules updates ,no more than four per year, anymore and it would become a problem for the screeners. We want them reviewing profiles not worrying about what the rule change for today is. Secondly, while a long way from what I think we should be doing, ken has this right, if it is not listed use a custom role and wait to contribute. By all means discuss it in the rules forum or feature request area, but probably not here. This forum should be cut and dried, if its not in the list then don't do to rationalize it, it, stop the endless discussions about rationalizing that always go, it is its in the list or it is not, in this case it is not. Various users.always try to create arguments or parsing to back themselves up but the rules need to be black and white, yes or no, that was the objective , not maybe. With the custom roles we have a system that allows for data a user considers important for himself, not contribute and discuss the data so that it might be included in the future. | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! | Posted: | | | | "anymore and it would become a problem for the screeners." Maybe need more screeners or more efficent screeners.
"if it is not listed use a custom role" I use custom role for many other roles that are not in the list.
" but probably not here" I was responding to the OP, I just didn't give a black and white yes or no.
"if its not in the list then don't do to " This would remove a numerous amount of existing credits already in the database because of wording.
"stop the endless discussions about rationalizing" I try to be rational in all my discussions. It's irrational to not listen to all sides of a discussion.
"Various users.always try to create arguments" Really, I hadn't noticed.
"With the custom roles we have a system that allows for data a user considers important for himself." I consider the data important to the database and all the users. If I didn't I wouldn't contribute anymore.
"not contribute" That is an option I have been considering.
"discuss the data so that it might be included in the future" Future is now. |

We get rid of the actual crew groups (direction, writing, ...) and we change that for an open list where we enter the job as listed on the credit. I don't like this idea as I prefer the crew groups. What I would like to see is for us to keep the current grouping, and have the 'custom role' field contributable. That way we have the grouping as well as the actual credit. Quote: Why the group who wrote the rules didn't think at that? It isn't like it was impossible to do even with the old DVDP version... Of course it was impossible to do. In the old DVDP version, all we had was radio buttons. How can you write a rule for open crew credits when it isn't possible in the program? | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand. The Centauri learned this lesson once. We will teach it to them again. Though it take a thousand years, we will be free. - Citizen G'Kar |
