There is a workaround for giving positives on contributions:
Go to Database and click on the notepad symbol left beside the contributed title. There you can see the authors including the possibility to give votes!

Another 'thanks' message; most useful!

Now if only the system could be set to give a positive to anyone who put a title into the database that wasn't there before (obviously one with correct useful data) that would be nice... it may improve the usefulness of the Upcoming Releases feature too, considering Play.com have 232 R2 UK titles being released between 21 January and 3 Feb and DVDP has... 2

Do you really think people in the R2 world aren't contributing new titles because they don't get positive feedback?  Maybe there just aren't enough R2 users with enough time or data to create new profiles.

You could always contribute those 232 titles yourself   That would only keep you occupied until the next cycle (4 Feb thru 17 Feb).

People cant really add them before they have them. Only a fair few stores give UPC codes of the titles they sell. So its often close to impossible to add them before hand. Not to mention that at least here not a single one of the major studios give any info of their titles (except local distributors), their websites (if there are any) are actually made just for press, and its 2008

At first, I liked the feedback system.

Now, I am getting unwarrented negative feedback (so far 4) that were not at all engative, just pointint out the obvious. Even though there is a warning before giving the negative info, it does not stop the person from reading said warning.

IMO, all negative feedback needs to be reviewed, not just if one post has numerous negatives attached to it. Any unwarrented negative feedback should effect the user that is giving said negative feedback.

I may be wrong but I think the biggest problem is there's no clear list for what we should be giving positive or negative feedback.
If there was a list on the confirm page which detailed the kind of violations we should be voting on, I think it would help a lot.

Not trying to be an ass here, but:

So what?

It's already been established that in order for a negative feedback vote to have an impact on your rating, there have to be several of them on the same post. If you have a bunch of stray negatives they don't have an impact on anything.

And if all four of the votes were on the same post, well... are you sure the post is completely kosher?

There is a bug somewhere on this site. I typed a reply, hit submit and it was gone.

I did the same yesterday in a post and when I hit preview, it was gone.

I'm also noticing that the site sometimes slows to a crawl.

Why is this here? Because I did not feel likie wasting my time trying to remember what my original reply to Astrakan was.

Anything sold by Woolworths or Bensons World can easily be added before release... and it is very useful, especially for the 'big' titles (ie. the one most likely to be sold by these stores) because then it stops half a dozen people contributing similar data all at the same time when a title is released... this is of course in addition to making the Upcoming Releases feature worth using!

I don't mean all 232 titles are likely to be done but it's a little downheartening when I find I do about half of the ones in the database by myself! ... I'd just like to emphasise here I really appreciate those who do the others in there and I'd just like to see more people give it a go!

I agree, but I suspect it would be an overwhelming task for the limited staff available to do it.

I believe he is saying that the expectation was that if someone submitted a negative vote that was not legitimate, that Invelos would "turn it around on the voter" if it was not legitimate.  This would establish a very strong deterrent to people voting "badly" and instruct the community as to how Invelos expects the voting system to be used.

If they are not doing this for instances where just a single negative is present (which indicates to me that the vote is probably inappropriate), then they are missing the opportunity to instruct in a whole lot of cases.

Bingo. It's also starting to chase some users away again.

I believe I've stated this before, but if the system had something built-in that a user would have to put an actual reason behind why giving a negative (mandatory) or a positive (optional) rating then that too could be a deterrent (however small) to personal vendettas against people.

I mostly sat back and observed all of the mud-slinging and attacks in the past week and more and I can say that if we as a community lost someone who contributes as much as skip (or anyone else for that matter) we would all suffer to some degree.

NOTE: I have been both been "slapped" by skip in the past when I was a n00b which were basically learning experiences for me when I didn't really know much, but I have also been on the receiving end of "pats on the back" as well.

Personally I give out positive ratings for well thought out information/points-of-views/or anything else said intelligently.  If I ever have a problem with someone (which is rare) I would reserve that for PMs (but still not give a negative rating).  I'm a peace-loving hippy at heart.

I just gave a positive rating to a No vote on a contribution I made.    He was quite right, and I withdrew the contribution.

But if you withdraw, does it stick?

I also wonder if it sticks if someone resubmits a profile without withdrawing.
