Why check the capitalization on the cover if a following rule says to ignore it and go with a different ruling.

Agreed.

Which rule exactly tells you to check capitalization _on the cover_?

I assume you are being facetious, but I'll play along.

It's the second rule: Check capitalization of the title.

I am fairly sure he is not being facetious as the rule does not say, "Check capitalization of the title on the cover," it simply says to check capitalization of the title...meaning, don't enter it as you see it.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

I think he was, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.  You are also making an assumption of what that sentence means and what it doesn't mean. It doesn't say that you aren't taking the title from the cover, where else would you get it? I tend to think it means what you say, but it is a bit vague and I can certainly see how others might not view it the same.

I don't really care about this rule; in fact I don't really care about any of the rules really as I can easily keep my local how I want it.  But look at some of the comments accusing other people of having ulterior motives, ignoring rules, etc instead of having a civilized conversation and respecting a different viewpoint.  The name of the forum is Contribution Discussion after all.  But the worse part is that this, like most other threads of it it's type, could easily be solved by a quick post from Invelos to clear up any confusion, but unfortunately that seems to be too much too ask.

How can one have a civil discussion without honesty?

There is nothing wrong with being honest - if it is done in a respectful manner. One can be honest AND civil.

As I posted before, the answer to that could be any of the following: "the cover spine, the back cover, the credit block (if there is no possessive, that is), the disc label or the title screen of the movie as found on the disc".

Which is why there's a rule which tells you where to look for the Title.

The capitalization rules then tell you how to subsequently enter what you've found on the front cover.

If you don't care about the rules why do you read and write on forum called Contribution discussion? If you contribute you must care about rules.

Good example would be Brainstorm/Cypher [6420201152737]. If you take the title from front cover the title would be  Brainstorm and if you would take it from the back cover it would be Cypher. That's why we have a rule which tells us where we must take the title ...and then we have a seocnd rule which tells us how enter that title in db. IMHO this rule is very simple and doesn't require any clarification.

If someone feels that the rule should be changed, the correct forum for that would be Contribution Rules Committee.

I meant I don't care personally what they are, as long as they are consistent.  I have no dog in this fight, as most other discussions of it's type.  If 'the' should be 'the' or 'The' it doesn't really matter as I can have them the way I want in my db.  When I contribute I of course follow the rules, as well as when I cast votes.
