Glad somebody was able to clear it up for you. |

Glad somebody was able to clear it up for you. I was not taking ofence with you in particular, gust the general attitude from some people that if a mistake was made it is: a) a deliberate attempt to corrupt the database b) all users except them will ignore any helpfully people out there who happen to know more c) all PM will be ignored I would like to state that I removed the profile as soon as I was PMed. To those who do not believe that a police, well worded PM works, I would like to say that IF you try this first, I believe that MOST users will respond in kind. If you treat the users as idiots, they will treat you as one. Lyonden, I do hope you do not take offence to my post, as you do seam to be a reasonable, rational person. |

What should be done when 2 actors have the same first and last name, and there is no middle name, middle initial, or birth year available for either actor?
I would say we have a problem, kovacs. Do you have a for instance?
Skip I have now come across this problem: Two actors with the same master name and no birth year info available anywhere for any of them. The two actors are called Robert Russell - in the IMDB the two in question are # 2 and # 8. I have many profiles with Robert Russell #2 (e.g. "Witchfinder General") and 1 profile with Robert Russell #8 ("Doom"). How do we solve this? | | | Last edited: by Behemot |

He's almost always credited as Robert Russell. Anyway, even if I were to change his name to Bob Russell in DVDP (which I feel would be incorrect), sooner or later (probably sooner) 2 actors with the same name, no aliases, and no birth years will appear, so we need a solution for this. |

That maybe the only option we have to distinguish between the two, I would also be willing to bet that we can't get a head shot for either one too. But, I'll keep thinking about it and see if I can come up with any ideas.

That's a definite "No" vote Correct conclusion, wrong argument. "Credited as" does not apply for common names. How could it? But inventing some tags is out of the line. We have four fields to "define" person: first name, middle name, last name, and brith year. That should be enough. |

WHAT?????? Of course. While copying credits from IMDb is out of the scope not only for legal reasons. IMDb is a valid source for documentation. |

| Posted: | | | | I've found several actors in the last week that cannot be separated on basis of birth year or aliases. Today I found that I have THREE different actors named Michael Bell in my collection - 1 of them has both a birth year and a seldom used alias, but there is neither birth year info nor alias info for the other 2 actors, making it impossible to separate them in the database. I really hope something's in the works to fix this problem! |

I see to issues here, first how big an issue is this and who is involved I have never heard of Michael Bell so he is probably a second or third tier actor. Just like we will not be able to always provide documentation for parsing a name at those levels, in which case we can't change the data. Same would apply here, there are some things that just will not be addressable.
