How about this?  All of us here in this thread will now PINKY SWEAR to do at least PARTIALLY COMPLETE changes.  [The first few posts here were on topic...]

If we're going to change any one of the Cover Info–based fields including Distributor, Rating Details, Overview italics/bold, Regions (for Blu-rays) fields, we'll at least check all of them.

I'm not going to stop and do the additional Crew types or check Cast against Credits for every such update, I do those as I have time and/or watch the films, but I can at least give the BACK COVER a good look one time.

Agree with Tweeter on this.  I only have 300+ in my collection, so I don't have anywhere near the volume that some of you are dealing with, but when I review a reformatted overview, I use it as an opportunity to take another look for typos that were missed in previous contributions.  It's amazing how many times you will find errors -- words, even entire sentences, omitted -- that somehow slipped through and have been in the database for over a year.  It feels good to get those fixed.

So, I'll start >> I hereby promise that if I make changes based on the Cover Information, I will check everything carefully, and the changes will be every field that needs to be changed, all wrapped up in one submission.

It does indeed feel good to get those fixed...

Mike

Edit: Do you like that "Partially Complete" bit at the beginning?  That's funny.  Yeah, dat's how we roll, here on The Disc...

Indeed, good post

When I've been reformatting the overviews, I do tend to read what's already there in case any typos slipped through. In some cases I got so cross eyed I just redid the whole overview to play safe! Not saying that I'm immune from making mistakes but at least any that were there would be gone!!

I also do add the regions (checked against my region A & B players), rating details (even though I don't agree with the capitalising rule). I don't generally add distributors, because of the controversy surrounding the field. Perhaps I'll start after Ken adds the extra fields.

That made me
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

And please, folks, stop contributing BY that are undocumented and inappropriate.  I keep having to cull out BY for Tom Hanks, Robert De Niro, Samuel L Jackson, Helen Mirren and a host of other folks, or pointlessly reviewing "cast changes" that only have inappropriate BYs because some people can't follow the rules.

I have to disagree.  Ken said that bold was for bold and italic was for italic.  Nothing more, nothing less.  Whether or not the producers wanted to highlight a word isn't the issue, how they chose to highlight it is.  If they chose bold, we enter it as bold.  If they chose italic, we enter it as italic.  If they happened to chose red or green or black or yellow or 'insert color here', we ignore it.

If it ever came to a vote, I would vote with Unicus.  Frankly, I think the bolding and italics ADD to the overview, but colour does absolutely nothing for me.  I have many DVDs which are white on black, so let's not go crazy here, are we going to really try to incorporate that????  If it is bold, by all means bold it, if italicized, great.  If purple....  ignore it.

I agree... Bold for Bold... Italic for Italic. Anything other then that would be a no vote from me. Text color has absolutely nothing to do with using Bold or Italic.
