so with that option to put every UPC with the smallest difference for every user online what would be the impact of that. My SRP differs of yours I want it online, my cover has lighter colors then yours, mine is second edition yours third, ....

A different cover is a significant difference to me. If I don't have the original cover, I have to scan it myself, as do others. It would be nice if we could trade them.

Also, when only original release details are included (and I'm not talking about changes in SRP), we're not able to alert users to situations where re-releases drop either the pan and scan or widescreen side of an original release. Sony/Columbia is famous for this practice. If DVDP could track the variants, it would be easy for a user to see the variants. This provides a heads up for when one is shopping for these. The currently available disc, if it is now only pan and scan, is noteworthy.

This, I understand and could agree with.  What I was talking about was true "duplicates" not just variations of a DVD that share the same UPC.  Maybe there should be some sort of indicator that could be attached to a UPC/EAN (like the region code for other than R1) so we could included variants (re-release covers, different video or audio, etc.)

Here's the procedure for adding duplicates to your collection:

Flag all the DVDs in your collection that you have duplicate copies of. Now create a new database with just the flagged titles. Now open the new database and change the UPC/EANs of each title to 000000000001, 000000000002, 000000000003, etc, etc. click on personalize for each title and select none for collection number otherwise you will end up with duplicate collection numbers when you restore these titles to your default database. Now backup this new database. Change to your default database and click on Restore Database. Select the database you created with your duplicate titles and click next. Restore All or select the titles you want to restore and make sure all the boxes below are checked. Click OK. Your duplicates are now part of your default database without having to build them from scratch.

Of course when uploading to your online collection, there will be no cover art for these duplicates because they are treated just like Manual DVDs. Without a UPC/EAN there will be no covers associated with them.

You COULD also create a DUPLICATE database which would contain ONLY Duplicates, since this would be an independent database from the regular one, you could use the UPC #s
