There are a lot titles out there on HD-DVD that I already own on DVD and therefore I am not 100% sold on buying in HD.  When I see an HD I don't have I then judge whether or not I just have to see that film in High Def!!!

For example, Patsa bought The Kingdom, Twilight Zone The Movie, and Notting Hill recently on HD-DVD.  Out of these three movies, in my opnion, The Kingdom would be a great movie to watch in HD quality picture and audio, the other 2 not so much!!!  Movies like Knocked Up or Accepted, while great movies (I own them on DVD), just aren't films I would double dip for just to see in HD!!!

I agree, in general. The Kingdom looks great in high def, but unfortunately it only has Dolby Digital Plus sound (and not even at full bitrate but that might just be the European version). I didn't have Twilight Zone on any format so that one was completely new to me and in such cases I prefer HD when I can get it. Notting Hill I already had on DVD but the deciding factor there was price and that it also offered TrueHD sound, which is always a welcome bonus even if it's just a drama/comedy.

Just answered the new poll btw. It took some research to fill in all the numbers...

I still shop for HD-DVDs and I watch diligantly for any sales or discounts I can find on them!!!  I buy them as I find movies I deem are "can't miss"!!!

In no way am I saying I am against Blu-Ray, I just am not impressed with the current stand-alones in terms of value vs. quality!!!  The PS3, a gaming console, still remains the best valued Blu-Ray player on the market, and from what i can tell it can do anything any other player on the market can do, except it lacks multichannel analog outputs!!!

Most likely a Blu-Ray player (PS3) will be on my christmas wishlist, it is how I got my HD-DVD player last year.  If I get one as a gift, it will be my BD player until I find a machine that will be the best upgrade and I can find!!!

I should send you a list of the HD-DVD movies I have an see if there are any you don't already have.

You wanna ged rid of your HD-DVD's?

I'm still picking up a few HD DVDs, during the last weeks I've bought Notting Hill, Twilight Zone: The Movie, The Kingdom and The Holiday. There are still many I could buy, but I either have them on DVD or I'm not really that interested in the movie. But there are a few hundred more out there if you want to build a complete collection!

I know what you mean. This week alone I bought 4 new HD-DVD Movies. Now there is really not a lot left that really want though

I only bought one HD Title where I though I was not worth the extra money. Interestingly enough that was a Blu Ray. "Triple X". It was the short version and it had no HD Sound whatsoever. So that one I sent back to amazon. In almost all other cases I am very happy with the HD Versions

I just took the follow up survey. After evaluating every point in kinda seems to me that maybe someone is planning to release new players.. They asked really a lot about player breakdowns and stuff like that..

If there would be a new HD-DVD Player released I would sure get it. (just as a backup)

Another thought: maybe toshiba gave up all their HD-DVD rights to some other company for very little money and they are currently trying to figure out what to do with that rights purchase

I think in the end the issue is always going to come down to availability of titles.  With each passing month those titles available on HD-DVD, at least to me, seem less and less appealing.  Lack of New Releases and even classic catalog titles makes it less likely that I will find a title I must own on HD-DVD.

That said, I don't feel an overwhelming urge to grab a Blu-Ray player!!!  I am enthusiastic about buying great movies and watching them in HD quality video with HD quality audio, but I want a cheaper BDP and I want cheaper blu-ray discs.  Economics and budget are always a deciding factor with me and clearly are different from person to person!!!

Well I bought my Hd-DVD Player in February. After Warner announced that they would stop making movies. Soon after I bought it they announced (Toshiba), that they would stop making the players. Then the titles got really cheap and I amassed over 150 HD-DVD's. Today I clicked through all HD-DVD Tiltes available at amazon.com and didn't find a single title I would wanna buy. I got them all. If they were new ones I would buy them. Sadly there aren't and will never be again. (Well actually I found 2 titles I seem to have missed so far but that was it).. Since may I own a Blu Ray Player and from what's currently available the 70 or so Blu Rays I have are all that interests me. There are a couple of US Fox releases I would like to have but sadly I have a european Player and Fox titles are region encoded. I checked every single title at amazon.de and found also 2 Titles. those I ordered. But there is really a lot of interesting stuff coming this and the following month. And here in Europe you can get a decent Blu Ray Player for about 230€ already. If you consider what the first DVD Players cost that is actually a bargain. In Germany the BD Movies are still very expensive but in the US and the UK (where I buy most of my movies) the prices are down to acceptable levels. So I see no reason to buy regular DVD's anymore. Except for catalogue titles that aren't likekly to be release on BD anytime soon..

Still despite everything I said I am still curious as to the reason for this survey..

I know. I already filled it out. I really wonder to what end they put those surveys out there. Maybe someone is interested in bringing HD-DVD back.. Would be great

I must admit that I'd feel much better knowing that I could pick up a new player whenever I wanted one.  Other than that, I think they should just leave the format alone and move on.

Fry's still had carts and carts of them the last time I was there, $4.99 - $11.99, but the number of titles is starting to get thin. Lots of HD-DVD's on eBay and Half.com.

There are actually some sweet titles on amazon.com for $7.99...

Even though I have already 164 HD-DVD's I still found 4 more that are of interest to me..
