They were created by users for a user built database. If the users feel they are no longer relevant, they should be reviewed. Calmly. As has been stated many times before, we have a perfectly good voting system. I always thought the rules were to keep out blatant mistakes mainly from new users. For other reasonable contentions, they should be flexible. Skip, I hate to single you out, but when someone posts a reasonable question concerning the rules, why do you react like an alarm has gone off? Lots of capitals, demands to keep whatever they suggest local, with the only reason being that it's the rules. The very thing they dared to question. Why can't you just take a step back, let it get discussed and then leave it to the votes on the profile concerned? Most of the time someone is only looking for assurance. Otherwise we all get on a 26 page merry go round. The same arguments trotted out time and time again, with the only difference being the level of anger. I tried to break the mood to no avail, as I've seen others try like 8ball and Funky (mind you, I think we could pull off a Ken and Gerri sitcom now!)  . As I saw someone post the other day on another forum, "I collect DVDs, not database records." Finally will some of you start giving each other the benefit of the doubt? No matter what's discussed, when certain names appear on the same page, my heart sinks! Cue two pages of sniping, accusations of ulterior motives and character assassination. Skip and Lopek are both valued members unless they talk to each other. There's something else going on there though. Unrequited passions. Oh, dear, I feel ill ... Just get a room you two.  | | | Jon

Hal, I only said 45 because that was Paul's suggestion. I know that in the movie it was 30.

I don't agree, that the rules should be flexible by itself; I'd correct your statement to: the rules have to be evolutionary (if this word exists in the English language) - the process of the rule development should be an ongoing... But I fully agree with you in the point that the rules-rule-guys started to kill the community; it's rather disapointing if you get a contribution vote "Read the rules" or even worse, you get insulted without any constructive commentary...
