| Posted: | | | | That's simply not true, Dan. Each Disc ID does NOT get a profile there are thousands of discs that have IDs and we don't do idividual profiles on, thank god for now, because the data would be near useless. You are setting up straw man to support an argument that went awy when we got dividers, all we need to do is add Side A/Side B dividers as well and it's done. are we going to set up separate profile for FS. WS releases, they are by Erik's definition simply two separate discs, each with it's own unique ID glued together....God I hope not. You argument doiesn't wash, mi amigo.(working on my Spanish) Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

| Posted: | | | | Do dividers give you subtitle information? Audio information? Commentary infromation? Aspect ratio information? I didn't think so.
And, you know well and good I am agsainst profiling both sides of a double sided disc IF and ONLY IF it vcontains the SAME movie in a different aspect ratio or ONLY bonus material. I have said so repeatedly.
Yoiur whole arguemnt was that you want to give the user what they want. Now you are against giving the users exactly what they want.
Even John wants to profile both sides of a disc in the manner I posted as my opinion. You two are usually on the same page, but he is on the same page as us on this issue. You're reading some bizzarro world book. | | | Signature banned: Reason out of date... |

Skip No, the profiles are there. You are wanting to remove those profiles and prevent any from being added because of a divider system that was set up for TV episodes. You are taking away functionality we already have for our movies, in an attempt to achieve the unachievable. Think about it, we are submitting side level profiles for our TV series and "phantom discs" are OK for them? We were doing side-level - disc ID profiles with our multi-feature discs long before that and you expect us to suddenly buy this "phantom disc" argument? | | | Dan | | | Last edited: by Dan W |

| Posted: | | | | Have you read what I have said Erik. I jave acknowledged those issues. And if you are going to profile both sides of a disc, then profile both sides of a disc, why should there be an if/then statement. Disc IDs are discs...or they are not....they are not sometimes and other times they are. By your standards we Profile ALL DS discs, after all they are two discs glued together are they not and each side has a unique Disc ID does it not.
Also as I noted Erik, you problems relative to subs, audio, etc, only holds water IF you are talking about DS Double Features, one you get more than One on a side your theory blows up. This not something we can do anything about right now, it's an issue..acknowledged and one WE can't fix. Ken's first priority was Cast and Crew, now it's on to the next, part and we have to wait. At best, we could create an intermediate fix with your solution, and one that would require much work to correct down the road...better to simply wait on the solution.

There is no distinction betweena TV Episode and a Feature film, except in a few categories, which still or in need of addressing. <sigh>
I guess i am wasting my time. we are going to begin profiling ALL DS discs under Erik's definition. watch out here they come. Ws, Pan & scan and all.

| Posted: | | | | What difference does it make, Skip? We are already being flooded with contributions for such things as "CoO" "Genre reorder" and "common name linking". I see this as a plus.
If you will remember just a few weeks back, the argument was that we should go to disc-level and side-level profiles for TV series so the data in the profiles was manageable.
At least with film, we can say that more data is gained by doing so.
We have been doing this a very long time, Skip. Or don't you remember contributions like "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" and "Fantastic Voyage" way back in September of 2000? That was almost seven years ago and it wasn't the first one like that, either! Now, suddenly, we are expected to abandon the data we are used to having? I think not! | | | Dan |

| Posted: | | | | <sighs> yes Dan, i remeber those and I also remember as I described in one of my poosts already why we HAD to do thiis. We did not have an adequate solution. Now wehave the beginnings of a solution, granted it's not finished..yet...but it will be. It makes more sense to begin working towards that ultimate answer, instead of magnifying a problem that does not NEED to exist any longer.

| Posted: | | | | removing data is not the answer, Skip!
The only thing that needs "fixing" is the way the program counts. | | | Dan |

| Posted: | | | | Well, there are a bunch of things that need 'Fixing". The way to "fix" the method the program counts is to address that, not rework the data. | | | Dan | | | Last edited: by Dan W |

| Posted: | | | | Like I said by the way you and Erik want to do it we must start profiling all DS disc individually. Why do we even have Side A and Side B in the Disc area. I won't do it, I won't support it and I WILL vote NO when I see it.

Skip That's crazy talk and insulting!!!!! How many times does it take before you understand that you are the only one wanting this change and you are the one wanting to alter the profiles and lose data and rewrite the rules and retrain everyone to a "new method" and get the new contributions and the new rash of ping pong profiles for each one and........ When will you get it? | | | Dan |

| Posted: | | | | When will you learn something about databases, Dan. There is NO data lost, the ONLY data you refer to does NOT apply any longer once there is more than ONE film on a side. Audio, VBideo, Subs all of it becomes irrelevant onbce there is more than one on a side.

| Posted: | | | | I am not trying to be insulting, Dan. But I know what i am talking about and as I have said and you know this I do not come at this from a point of "I want", I am totally pragmatic and approach it strictly from a technical viewpoint. Always have always will.

Skip Talk about insulting! That tops most of your nastier shiitake mushroom, Skip! You would have us redo all of those profiles like Fantastic Voyage. A great deal of data is lost. | | | Dan | | | Last edited: by Dan W |

Skip You are worse than insulting with this stuff, Skip! You are running people off. Some of them good, hard working people. If it were from a realistic viewpoint you would understand what people say when they talk to you. | | | Dan | | | Last edited: by Dan W |
